That’s all, folks! Nearly five years of workdays that start at 6 a.m. and end at 11:30 p.m. has taken its toll and I'm hanging up my boxing gloves. Mother Dough's closing its doors and our last day will likely be at the end of December.
It’s been such a wonderful experience, but running Mother Dough was the most physically and emotionally grueling experience of my life. My goal from day one was a simple one: make a really good pizza. Little did I know five years ago that if you’re adamant on not compromising on quality, you have to do everything by yourself. Naive? Big-time. It doesn’t take an MBA in business to know that that’s not a sustainable business model.
I want to thank everyone who has supported us through the years, for understanding when I’d put up a sign in the morning that we’d be closed because I was sick, and for coming in regularly and taking a minute to say hi and that they really enjoyed their pizza. To the regulars and one-timers, thanks for sustaining me when I was so tired. You kept me going.
I’ve missed my two boys growing up. They’re now 4 and 6 and I look forward to taking an active role in their lives as opposed to the meager four hours I got when I picked them up from school on Mondays before they had to go to bed.
For now, I’m saying goodbye to sleeping at the restaurant when I was just too tired to go home, not having dinner for five years and the permanent (hopefully not) burn marks on my fingers. I’m due for a long nap. When I’m feeling normal again, I’ll see what’s next.
Holiday Closures:
Dec. 24 and 25
Dec. 31
Jan. 1
I’ll post an update on our official closing when I have a firm date, and if we are open in January, I’ll post that information as well.
Thanks for a great ride.
