It's time to start planning your pumpkin carvings, Ghouls and Ghosts!
Lotus-Coloma Valley's Pumpkins on the Bridge starts at sunset on Friday October 30th! Just bring your pre-carved pumpkins and tea-lights to the Hwy 49 South Fork American River Bridge. If you don't have a jack-o-lantern, still come out and see all the amazing artwork done by your friends and neighbors!
As always, Sierra Rizing Cafe will be open during this special community tradition, serving spooktacular food and drink from 5 pm to 8 pm. New exciting adult beverage menu, check it out and, of course, our espresso machine will be on churning out hot cinnamon stick apple c***r, chocolatey cocoa, and so many coffee drinks. Fresh cookies in the case, and fall harvest desserts coming out of our ears!

September Recipe of the Month: Old Fashioned Buttermilk Pie
It's almost officially fall, and the perfect weather for an incredible pie that's easy to bake and delicious no matter the season.

Ingredients:
3 large eggs
1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup softened butter
3 Tbsp all purpose flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp grated nutmeg
1 frozen pie shell

Directions:
Step 1
Gather all your ingredients, preheat oven to 350 F
Step 2
Beat eggs in a bowl until frothy
Step 3
Add sugar, butter, and flour; beat until smooth
Step 4
Stir in buttermilk, lemon juice, and nutmeg
Step 5
Pour into pie shell
Step 6
Bake in preheated oven until center is firm, 40-60 minutes
Step 7
Remove from oven and let cool before serving.

Serve with anything berry and a bit of whipped cream!

We recently went to a lovely memorial at Art on the Divide Cooperative Gallery for a beautiful person who many folks in our community on the divide knew and cared for.
Christine McClellan was a founding member of the gallery, a wonderful artist, and sweet person. She will be sincerely missed by all who knew her and remembered fondly. Thank you for the memories and the beauty you brought to the world.

Recipe of the Month: Tomato Salad with Bacon Vinaigrette - 8 Servings
Most people either have tomatoes coming out their ears in their summer gardens or have access to farm fresh tomatoes from a neighbor or farmer's market.
What do you do with that many tomatoes?
Make a tomato salad with onion, feta, bacon, and chives, of course.

Ingredients:
4 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
3 Tbsp. sherry or red w**e vinegar
2 tsp. Dijon mustard
2 Tbsp. mild, buttery olive oil (do not get a strong or grassy oil, the flavor will overpower the dish)
1 lb. Heirloom tomatoes, cut into wedges
1 oz. feta cheese, crumbled
Fresh chives, chopped
Directions:
Cook bacon in a medium skillet on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until crisp, 8 to 10 mins.
Transfer bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate ; pour off all but 2 Tbsp. of bacon grease. Add onion to pan.
Cook on low to medium heat, stirring occasionally until tender, 4 to 6 minutes.
Add vinegar and Dijon mustard; cook, scraping up any brown bits, until incorporated, 1 minute.
Remove from heat; whisk in olive oil. Arrange tomatoes on a platter and drizzle with vinaigrette. Top with chopped bacon, cheese, and chives.

Recipe of the Month: Frozen Watermelon Mules - 4 Servings
With the weather being so dang hot, it's nice to have a frozen drink to enjoy by the pool or just inside with the AC on. And this easy frozen mule can be made with a little prep and patience.
Ingredients:
4 cups Frozen Watermelon
1 cup Ginger B**r (not Ginger Ale, you want the stronger flavor, and the watermelon provides the sugar)
1/2 cup Vodka
1/4 cup lime juice
ice
mint leaves and lime slices for garnish

Directions:
Freeze four cups of cubed watermelon for no more than 4 hours (learn from my mistake and DO NOT freeze it overnight it will turn into a brick and be hard to break apart)
In a blender, combine the frozen watermelon cubes, ginger b**r, vodka, and lime juice.
Pour into chilled/frozen glasses or copper mugs and garnish with mint leaves and lime slices.
Drink several responsibly!
Can be made without vodka for a child friendly watermelon slushy.
