THE WALNUT STREET CAFE

A cozy cafe on Walnut Street just outside of downtown Lynn and accessible from Route 1. We serve a variety of domestic and imported beers and wines and dozens of flavors of iced and hot coffee. If you're hungry, we have club sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, and bagels. When the weather is right, enjoy your food and beverages, and a bit of live music and entertainment at least 6 nights a week, out on our patio. With stiff competition from the megachains dotting the landscape, The Daily Item named us their #1 Coffee Shop for 2009, 2010 and 2011! Thank you item favorites! http://www.northshoretonight.com/walnutstreetcafe

Michelle Hache is our Speakup feature this Wed 6/3/2026, in person at the Walnut Street Coffee Cafe, 157 Walnut St., Lynn MA.
Michelle was born and raised in Waltham, Massachusetts, home of the best roads in the Commonwealth. She is a teacher by trade, a mom to two young adults, and partner to her husband, singer songwriter, Roger Jermyn. Her dog Calpurnia, is a heavyweight snuggle bug, and her cat Jem is a benevolent ruler, who must be encouraged to use his power for good and not evil. Michelle has performed at Moth Storyslams, and on PBS’s Stories From The Stage, as well as a variety of open mics. Michelle has been telling stories on stage for about 3 years, but if startled she may run off and hide behind the furniture, please make no sudden movements.
If you give Michelle a microphone, she’s going to want a stage
Once you’ve given her a stage, she’s going to ask for an audience.
When she has an audience in front of her, she’s going to want to talk. If you let her tell one story, she’ll probably ask to do another.
If you let her do another, she’s probably going to want to keep talking. When she’s done with that story, she’s going to need a coffee. Do not give her a coffee after six pm. If you do, she’s going to want the microphone again.

04/28/2026

Dan Zampino is our Speakup feature this Wed 4/29/2026, in person at the Walnut Street Coffee Cafe, 157 Walnut St., Lynn MA.
Daniel William Zampino is a sculptor, poet, writer, and lawyer. He has traveled extensively, transforming his experience into art. A slate-stone-relief sculptor, he fashions narratives out of observations, incising stories into stone as pictures, supplemented by explanatory writings. He is a poet, spoken-word performer, and lectures on art and travel. Working as a sculptor and writer for fifty years, he evokes themes of love, war, spirit, mythology, psychology, political repression, grief, anger, travel and divinity. As an artist he has been showing his works for almost forty years, and has had four solo shows. The most recent was in 2023, out of which he produced ‘Sculptures Inspired by Travel,’ a book of sculptures and writings reflective of his observations of other cultures, and by extension, of himself. More recent, he assembled ten poems written during the recent pandemic. The title of his collection is called Corona Follies – through which he thematically poses ‘(p)oems from the Pandemic Times, or how microbes infected a portion of the American people, causing them to attack the Capital.’ The title poem views our world through the vantage of the microbes themselves. From here, the collection examines how our mammalian brothers and sisters thrived while we – we industrial humans – shut down. A church, braving the pandemic, ordains its congregants to ‘cough in tongues.’ Subsequent works cover Kerouac and Shakespeare, culminating in the refusals of dying patients to accept covid as a truthful diagnosis, as they believe their president when he calls covid (for which he himself was infected) a hoax. The collection draws to a crescendo with a tome on and about January 6, 2021, when the followers of a fallen (and future) president inspires an assault on the Capital.

04/26/2026

Salam Alkaby is our Sunday Music open mic feature at the Walnut St Coffee Cafe, 157 Walnut St, Lynn MA. this Sunday 4/26/2026.
Salam has brought an appreciation for Middle Eastern music to the North Shore. He is a former soccer player and coach, who has become a master Oud builder and player. His playing, which is largely improvisational, takes us on a journey to another world. At times delicate and subtle, then stirring and beautiful. The whole experience is most often mesmerizing and hypnotic. Salam is often accompanied by intricate and challenging tabla and drum rhythm tracks. He is a versatile musician who is comfortable in both Eastern and Western music forms and scales. He can and has collaborated with Eliz Mckim, accompanying her jazz and blues poetry with his Oud. The Oud has a pear-shaped, bowl-like back made from thin wood staves (such as walnut or maple) and a fretless neck. It is often decorated with mosaic patterns. The oud has ancient roots, often associated with Persia and considered a successor to the Persian barbat. Please come and join us for a different musical exploration.
