The Oak

The Oak The Oak located in Malcolm, Nebraska offers amazing take out pizza, burgers, sandwiches and more!

Well, this will be the last update on The Oak.

We can’t pay our rent. So I am moving out today.

It meant so much to me the support that we got from the town and everyone who came and bought pizza and worked for us.

I am sorry that I failed, and I apologize for not being able to hold on long enough to get the money together needed to fix everything to make it right.

There will be, without any doubt, speculation and rumor regarding how this all went down, and for that, I also apologize.

I could go on with a litany or reasons or excuses, but honestly, it comes down to one thing. I failed and was unable to make it work out financially because there was not enough time, money, or patience for me to get it done.

Whomever buys or rents this place next 100% needs to have a full inspection done before they go into it and do the place right. It deserves it and it is the only way it will serve the purposes of the people and the community.

Hello everyone!

As everyone knows, The Oak has been carrying out only for the first month, just to get our kitchen and process down for our menu while we prepared for and completed the renovations and repairs in the main dining area.
After the sewer backup problem was resolved, cleaned up, I paid to have the cameras sent down the lines to make sure that these issues will not crop up again, which I should have done in the first place, since it sat unoccupied for so long.
I talked this afternoon with the construction team that is going to begin work on finishing the repairs/renovations for the seating area and I discussed with them the timeline for getting it completed. Based upon that conversation, we can have the seating area open in two weeks, but it also means that we will need to be closed during this time, as the amount of noise, debris, and dust will be unmanageable even with the temporary wall in place. If we do it while we are open, they would have to work at night/early day and would require a complete and thorough cleaning twice a day just to mitigate the dust, not to mention electrical and water interruptions that will happen that could make doing business difficult and cause delays in service and quality.
So after some consideration, I have made the decision to stay closed and focus all of our time and effort on completing the dining area for use as soon as possible. It is what everyone wants, including me. Getting the seating area open and getting an occupancy license is the big step needed to finalize our liquor license.

So we will will begin primary construction on the main area on Friday, and over the next four days we will be installing the booths, and finish the work on the bar/table tops so that the construction on the poles/beams/footings can be done. After that is complete, it is reinstalling the ceiling/insulation/lights next week, and getting ready for customers the next week.

Our intention is to be open for full service sit down, carry out, and delivery on Monday April 1st. With our occupancy license secured, we will be able to finish our application for our liquor license and I believe that we will have that within 4-6 weeks, before Memorial Day.

While I appreciate the patronage and patience that everyone has shown, I want to make it clear that I can understand any frustrations regarding our inconsistency and timing with being open. I am actually very sensitive to that because of how important it is to me. Until we have the seating ready and the liquor license secured, we are not really giving the town and the area what it really wants.

So now that we know exactly what is left to be done, how long it will take, and the resources and help to do it, we are just going to make that push to complete it. I appreciate all of the support the last couple of months and I hope that we reward your faith in us with the result.

So we will be closed until April 1st. I will provide updates on the regular and I will still be at the restaurant every day so feel free to call or reach out to me with any questions or concerns that you may have about it.

Okay, I hope this is the last update like this for awhile now, but we finally got the drain issue under control, and the cleaning is mostly finished, which we will complete today/tonight.

However, once we are finished with the cleaning tonight we also need to make dough and prep the lines. So we will be closed one more day and we will be open at 6am on Tuesday morning.

Thank you all for your patience, support, and business! Now, it is time to finally get some rest before heading into an of evening of prep and dough making!

The Oak will be closed today as we continue to work on the plumbing and cleanup, we apologize for the inconvenience and additional delay, however some things just have to not only be done right, but we also found a few other possible issues that we needed to clear up to prevent future problems.
Thank you all for your patience and I will provide an update on when we will reopen later tonight.

03/09/2024

We are going to be closed for the rest of the day Saturday (March 9th) and until 2pm on Sunday as we finish fixing the sewer clog and clean the mess. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you all for your patience.

Hey everyone! Yesterday morning we began having some plumbing issues at The Oak that prevented us from doing dishes or draining the water out of the sinks, due to a blockage somewhere between the center of the main building and the outer wall.
We are going to be closed at least until 4pm so we can bring someone in the morning to find and resolve the issue. While the water back up is not creating any damage nor anywhere near the food, it must be dealt with and the area thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before we are open and we also have a bunch of dishes and cleaning from yesterday still to do.
So if we are able to get the clog resolved quickly we should be able to be open Saturday evening. We will provide an update as soon as we are able.

Starting today, February 22, 2024 The Oak will exclusively using Omaha Steaks beef, chicken, and pork throughout our menu and our fresh-to-consumer market. We are excited about forging a relationship not only with our customers, in providing the highest quality possible, but also with local vendors and suppliers.
Here is a way too short list of items that I would love to find a high quality, sustainable, locally owned source for:

Cheese, eggs, milk, butter, (basically any dairy), flour, produce, custom paper products, honey, sugar, pepperoni, jalapenos and other peppers, fresh herbs and spices. If we use it we will also sell it, if that is desired. Come talk to us!

Also, I want to find someone who wants to access to our massive prep kitchen at night and mornings for making their own cakes, cookies, or other baked goods to sell out of our market as well as support their own contracts and jobs. So if there is someone local who is willing to help establish our daily baking, come talk to us!

We are going to be introducing new menu items like cinnamon rolls, chili, chislic, burgers, hand-battered chicken tenders, and wings slowly over the next couple of weeks as we continue to prepare our kitchen and staff to meet the additional demand.

Thank you to everyone in the area and our growing list of customers who have been amazing, patient, and encouraging with us as we continue to work towards getting our full kitchen, seating area, and staff ready. Updates on when the full restaurant/bar opening will be given soon and things are looking up in that direction. Once I have somethings confirmed, I will definitely share it!
