"Big Alcohol and Mitch McConnell vs. Georgia’s Craft Beer Lifeline”

What we’re seeing with the Farm Bill which gets rewritten in October isn’t just policy — it’s big business using regulation to squeeze out smaller players, orchestrated in part by the Mitch McConnell faction in the Senate. I want everyone to realize that Republicans used to be the party of small business, but now special interests has highjacked both parties.

Craft breweries across Georgia and the country were struggling with declining beer sales and high costs. Many small and mid-sized operations found a lifeline in h**p-derived CBD drinks — a new, innovative way to diversify and stay afloat. Now, changes being pushed in the revised Farm Bill threaten to restrict or eliminate those h**p products, effectively cutting off that revenue stream.

This isn’t accidental. McConnell and his allies, heavily influenced by Kentucky bourbon interests, have helped shape provisions that protect big agribusiness and traditional alcohol giants while clearing the way for larger players to dominate the emerging h**p/CBD market on their own terms. Small breweries that bet on diversification to survive are the ones getting hurt the most.

The pattern is clear: use regulation to disadvantage the little guys, then let the big corporations consolidate control. Georgia’s struggling craft beer scene — and the farmers, breweries, distributors, and jobs that depend on it — deserves better.

What do you think — is this just the free market, or regulatory capture at work?

Hidden in the back of a Cobb Parkway shopping center on the street that leads into Life University, is a longstanding Persian Restaurant and Grocer. It's a hidden gem for sure, and the proprietors are wonderful people.

I seek out Lebanese olive Oil where many of the olive trees have been destroyed in southern Lebanon during the Israel-Hezbollah conflict were ancient specimens, often centuries old some estimated at 150–600 years or more, representing living links to the region’s Phoenician and Roman-era agricultural heritage.

Lebanese olive oil has long enjoyed a strong reputation for its high quality, robust flavor profiles (often fruity, peppery, and herbaceous from varieties like Baladi and Souri), and traditional cold-pressing methods in areas like Koura; while Italian and Greek oils dominate global markets with their protected designations and volume, connoisseurs frequently praise Lebanese versions for superior freshness, polyphenol content, and authenticity when sourced from small producers, positioning them as a premium niche alternative amid the Mediterranean competition.

The widespread destruction of these heritage groves has not only slashed output but also endangered this distinctive legacy.

ON A PERMANENT TAP SPOT

🍺 Cracking open a cold one tonight with this absolute gem: Rhinegeist Juicy Truth Hazy Juicy IPA from Cincinnati.

If you’re in the business as long as I have, you learn to spot the real deal and this one delivers. Tropical, juicy hops with that perfect hazy vibe and clean finish. It’s the evolution of their flagship Truth, and it shows why Rhinegeist (led by brewer Jim Matt, a chemist-turned-craft legend) keeps winning fans (and GABF medals) year after year.

Local pride, killer quality, and just damn good beer. Highly recommend grabbing one as I have it on tap.

What’s your go-to hazy IPA right now?

Coming Soon: The Juicy Lucy

Sadly we lost Lucy Young 2 months ago. Lucy was taught by the best, she was a Grill Cook at Waffle House before we got her.

While she worked here, she would make this special burger for Regulars. We have a few details to work out but it will be on the menu next week.

So, in loving memory of a good soul we proudly offer our customers a burger for Lucy.
