After our first year of business at the Griffin Street cafe, a wise friend gave us the book, “The Best Yes; Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands” by Lysa TerKeurst . We have referred to that book and its teaching countless times since receiving it. The basic premise of the book is that saying yes to something means saying no to something else. There is a ripple effect. Every yes leads you down a particular path. If you do not choose the very best yes, it is easy to find yourself in a place that is far from where you really wanted to go.
We started the Buzzy Fields journey more than 3 years ago, before in-laws and grand babies, before the pandemic and Micah’s “retirement,” before the gigantic coffee order and the Forsyth project. So many things have changed for us in the family, business and corporate worlds.
We have had so much fun restoring this historical property, developing the business brand and concept, creating processes and strategies to ensure great experiences and assembling a team of great talent that works incredibly well together and delivers top notch customer service. Your reviews and continued patronage prove it has all been a great success! However, this success has come with a price. Saying “yes” to Buzzy Fields indirectly caused us to say “no” to other things - personally and professionally. It has become very apparent that the demands of Buzzy Fields will continue to dictate our schedule, keep us from being able to facilitate the plans we have for Queen Bee Coffee Company and consume time and resources that could otherwise be spent on our children and grandchildren. We will not get these days back.
So with a lot of mixed emotions, our “best yes” requires that we close Buzzy Fields as of end of business on May 20th.
Here are a few questions, you may have and we want you to know we are addressing.
“What about your employees?” Some have already transitioned to other jobs. Some are transitioning to various educational pursuits. Some are taking this change to engage in other things they want to do. Some will continue to be seen working with us in different roles.
“What about my gift card?” We’ll certainly honor those until we close. If there’s a balance and you don’t use it, we’ll give you the cash on your card or you can use it at Queen Bee. It’s completely your choice but we’ll take care of you whatever you want to do.
“What about the business?” Well, if you are interested in running an awesome small shop in a phenomenal location that has already proven itself, reach out to us. We may could work something out with you.
“Is the building for sale?” No way. Don’t even ask. But we do believe in small business and entrepreneurship so if you have an idea you’d like to launch in our space, we’d be all ears.
Thank you all so much for supporting Buzzy Fields Filling Station! We hope you have fond memories of our little filling station. It has been a great adventure! The impact BF has made in each of our lives has been indelible and worth every ounce of effort we’ve collectively poured in. A huge thanks to our team for all the lessons learned and memories made. You were such an amazing group.
We will continue to make the next few weeks just as awesome as ever! Hope to see you before the 20th!
