I can still remember when it was against local law, for a black man to remain on the same side of the Sidewalk utilized by White Women. Southern norms equal local law, which was more powerful and dangerous than legislated enactments by local, State and Federal Governments. In the Summer of 1960, local Oconee high school Senior, Jim May, was arrested in downtown Dublin, for remaining on the same side of the sidewalk approaching a youngbWhite girl, and speaking to her in a too friendly manner. Mr. Clearance May Sr. Responded to the location, and posted a cash bond for Jim, and threatened to sue the city for unfair racial discrimination, the city dropped all charges, and discontinued their unauthorized practices.

Both Mr. Wade and his lovely wife, dedicated their lives to higher and quality education for the children of Dublin and Laurens County. Their exceptional expertise in the field of education, set them on high, evennwith their peers. Both humble Servants of God, dedicated parents and matrimonial patterned for life. Martin Luther King Jr, made his first public address in First African Baptist Church ⛪️ on Telfair, Rev. Amos Holmes, long time Southeastern Director of the NAACP, lived in Dublin, Georgia, while assisting with the finalization of Brown verses Board Of Education, while James Holder became the longest active member of the National SCLC Executive. Dublin also produced an array of strong youth leaders, during the Dublin Civil Rights Movement, namely: Richard Sheffield, Thomas Pooler, Jessie Pooler, Ronnie Pooler, Juanita Tucker, Joe Pooler, Hazel Pooler, Gail Wilson, Charles Sumblin, and etc. Thanks Yall,
