BAKERY UPDATE: I am phasing out the Memphis Cookie Company storefront location at the Hickory Ridge Mall. I will miss all of my wonderful customers who consistently supported me at this location but the time has come for me to focus solely on Corporate & Custom Orders.

I started at the Farmers Market in 2017 so for almost a decade I’ve grown to absolutely love interacting with both loyal and new customers and spoiling y’all rotten at a moments notice so this is a decision that I avoided making for a long, long time but the demand for bulk orders, corporate gifts & events, and custom orders has continued to increase & it’s a space that I equally love!

I had a whole celebration planned for the phase out but as you know my Mommy passed away on March 8 and my whole world stopped. Thank you for allowing me the time and space to grieve. 🥰

Something new is coming so please stay tuned for more details about the next phase!

To my DEAR CUSTOMERS, Thank you for your prayers, encouraging DMs, text messages, calls, flowers, gifts, and for even showing up at my Mommy’s services. My heart is FULL from the outpouring of love and it has strengthened me more than you know. THANK YOU!!!!

As I continue to process the magnitude of losing my Mommy and make adjustments to all that takes place at this stage, please note that the storefront location will remain closed this week.

Your patience during this time is greatly appreciated.

What’s the Difference Wednesday 🍪 It’s Women’s History Month so this week we’re talking about Measuring Cups vs. a Kitchen Scale — two tools that can completely change the way you bake.

Most home bakers measure with cups and spoons to measure ingredients by volume, meaning how much space something takes up. However, in the late 1800s, cookbook author Fannie Farmer helped standardize measuring cups and spoons, making baking recipes more consistent and accessible for home bakers and cooks. Before that, recipes often included instructions like “butter the size of an egg” or “a teacup of flour.”

Measuring cups CHANGED THE GAME for home bakers. Thanks Fannie Farmer! We salute you as our Women’s History Month game changer!

Now in the professional world, bakers take things one step further by using a kitchen scale, which measures ingredients by weight instead of volume. Because ingredients like flour can settle differently in a measuring cup, a scale often gives the most accurate and repeatable results.

So which one is better?

Honestly… both tools have their place in the kitchen. I use both!
Measuring cups are quick and familiar, while a kitchen scale provides more precise results and trust me it will save you a lot of money and time too!

Cookiepreneur Tip:
If you want more consistent cookies, cakes, and breads, try weighing your flour on a scale instead of scooping it with a cup. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a recipe come out wrong because there was an air pocket in the measuring cup.

Which one do you use most in your kitchen — measuring cups or a scale? Tell me in the comments!

Check back next week for another What’s The Difference? Wednesday!

10 Year Cookie Journey: I remember when I first started working out of a huge commercial kitchen space, I had to call my Dad to come and help me. Setting up, baking, packaging, cleaning up, and navigating around other bakers and chefs, all within a set time frame was so overwhelming and exhausting. My Dad assisted me for two years by doing all the dishes, sweeping, mopping and cleaning up so I wouldn’t have to worry about that part. Eventually I learned how to manage my time better and I was able to handle everything on my own.

I love this photo because it shows the lengths that my Dad would go to assist me. I had a huge cookie order and needed my Dad to help scoop cookie dough and he jumped right in!

When my company was featured on “The View” and I was picking, packaging and shipping hundreds of orders out per week in the MIDDLE OF COVID,,my Dad called me every single day, twice a day, to encourage me! That level of support over the past TEN YEARS is what has helped me push through the tears, the setbacks and tough challenges! Thanks you Deddy!

Stay tuned for more memorable moments and some customer appreciation posts!

10 Year Cookie Journey • This Was The Post That Started It All! Check Out The Date!!

Who knew that this post would lead to $5,000 in sales in 7 weeks? The goal was $3500 to be raised in two months & we did more & in less time!

Who knew that I would go on to help others raise funds for their mission trips to Africa, Japan & Peru? So many people helped me so I just had to keep the momentum going and it was all about .

Who knew that this fundraiser would turn into a huge Corporate Order months later? So huge—4,500 Cookies—that it would be an answer to a silent prayer as to whether I should pursue this venture full time.

I owe THIS SUCCESS to everyone who supported my daughter’s fundraiser and to everyone who has continued to support me over the past TEN YEARS!

Stay tuned for more memorable moments and some customer appreciation posts!

Photo #2 - 10 Year Cookie Journey

Next to my Mom, my BIG SISTER is such a huge supporter of anything I do and she will go to the ends of the earth to help me accomplish my dreams and goals!

From the Fundraiser to the Farmers Market to Now, she supports my Cookie business in every way imaginable, and she still places her cookie orders and pays for her orders like every other customer! That shows how much she respects what I do and that she sees me as a professional and not just her baby sister!

She has also been the OFFICIAL COOKIE TESTER for the entire 10 years and she expects nothing but EXCELLENCE and that’s partly why everything tastes so good! She has a tough job but someone has to do it lol and she does it well!

I’m grateful to my Big Sister for all of her words of wisdom, unwavering support and for always challenging to produce at the highest level! Love you!

10 Years Ago this month, I started this Cookie Journey and one reason I went so hard on my daughter’s fundraiser, the reason I started my cookie business, the reason I worked 6 Farmers Market a week, the reason I shipped out thousands of orders when my company was featured on The View, the reason I opened a storefront and every other milestone in between is because of MY MOMMA. She ALWAYS encourages me to follow my dreams no matter how MAGNANIMOUS they are.

I remember in 2016 when I was getting back-to-back fundraiser orders, I jokingly said, “Momma these cookies must be really good”, she looked me square in the eyes and said, “They ARE good, Megan, they are!” And that’s all I needed was to know my Momma believed in me and here I am 10 YEARS LATER!

All month long, I will be sharing photos of some of my most memorable moments over the years as well as some customer appreciation posts!

What’s the Difference Wednesdays: Cookie Scoop vs. Spoon 🍪

It’s the last week of Black History Month, so I wanted to end the month on a BEAUTIFUL NOTE. Before cookie scoops existed, bakers used spoons to portion cookie dough, and it resulted in uneven sizes and inconsistent baking. It may not bother some, but for those trying to improve their baking skills, it matters!

In 1897, Alfred L. Cralle, a Black inventor, patented the modern ice cream scoop. His design included a built-in release mechanism, allowing bakers to create consistent portions with ease.

Today, that same design is used for:

• Cookie scoops
• Ice cream scoops
• Portion scoops

👩🏽‍🍳 Cookiepreneur Tip:
If you’ve ever wondered how bakers create perfectly round cookies, it’s because we use an ICE CREAM SCOOP. An ice cream/cookie scoop creates uniform dough portions, helping cookies bake evenly and look more professional. A spoon works, especially if that’s all you have, but your cookies may come out in all shapes and sizes. Up your cookie game and invest in an ice cream scoop.

The cookie scoop is one of my most utilized tools and I’m truly grateful for Alfred L. Cralle for creating a simple yet effective tool that forever changed the baking game!

How do you portion out your cookie dough? Did you know that a black man created the ice cream scoop?

Check back next week for a New What’s the Difference Wednesdays where I share and compare kitchen tools to make baking easier!
