Certainly there have been some questions on the status of what is to be with Spartan. Many of you have personally known me as Mike for many years as I’ve owned and operated it for some time now.
My wife and I decided to close it for personal and financial reasons due to many issues brought on by Covid. As many restaurants that are small individually owned and solely operated have had the decision to make locally and nationally over the past 18 months. Food costs doubled at minimum and tripled and quadrupled in some and finding quality help in this market is borderline if not completely unaffordable while keeping a pizza place marketable and at price point.
A lot of our business, about half came from the business parks in bedford with lunch orders and catering during the first half of the day. Due to the work from home order many thousands of customers that weren’t local in most cases no longer ordered and made the business unsustainable, we certainly tried to make it to the possible light at the end of the tunnel each month but it always stayed just out of reach.
We are hoping in us leaving the local market our segment of sales we still maintained will trickle down to the other small family owned businesses that may have been on the brink of closing or took on substantial debt to stay open in the past 18 months, and they can reverse their standing or pay off bills and be sustainable with more revenue flow.
I would like to thank everyone in town for the opportunity we had to serve everyone, especially our regulars who I am sure are missing one of their weekly or daily go to’s. I will miss many who came by and had great conversations over the years. I wish we could have done something more formal but it was more than time and money allowed.
