MESSAGE FROM MAYOR NEIL PERRY: Good afternoon - We received notice of 10 new cases today, bringing the total number of confirmed Methuen residents to 104. At this point, we've confirmed that 11 of these individuals have recovered and are out of quarantine. What great news for them and their families.

Sadly, we have been notified of our first 'possible COVID-19' death in Methuen. Apparently, in this case, there were other preexisting conditions and the exact cause of death is unclear. Nevertheless, this is the most sobering news yet regarding the seriousness of the current situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with this family.

Please continue to stay home as much as you can, practice responsible physical distancing and aggressive personal hygiene. All of this is going to continue to get worse before it gets better. We all need to do our part to limit the spread of this virus.

Be good to one another and stay safe!

MESSAGE FROM MAYOR NEIL PERRY: As of this afternoon, the number of Methuen residents who have been confirmed with COVID-19 virus has increased to 52. Although I'm disappointed this number continues to grow, it's not unexpected as more and more individuals are tested. Fortunately, the overwhelming majority of these men and women continue to be treated at home. If anything, this number should encourage each of us to stay home and to practice responsible physical distancing.

On a more positive note, we're also beginning to learn that some of the individuals our nurses have been tracking have recovered. Although we don't have that exact number, I am encouraged by that positive news and look forward to sharing more details as they become available.

As I've said many times, I'm so very grateful to Amy Ewing, our Public Health nurse, and to our team of public school nurses who have been working seven days a week to communicate with confirmed Methuen residents and to stay in touch with those with whom they've been in contact. Our team is reaching out by telephone, text, and email - we're appreciative for the cooperation we're receiving.

MESSAGE FROM MAYOR NEIL PERRY: As of 5:00 PM this evening, there are now 9 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the City of Methuen. Each of these individuals – together with others with whom they’ve been in contact – have been quarantined and are being monitored on a daily basis by the city’s Health Department. Although I’m obviously disappointed by the increase in today’s count, it’s inevitable the number will grow as more testing becomes available. This number is a harsh reminder that everyone in the city should be taking this health crisis very seriously.
