Team cupping ☕️ !

Once in a while, we come together after-hours to taste through each of the coffees we’re roasting and often some samples of new ones we’re considering bringing in. We love this new tradition of sharing and discussing our coffees with this crew while the shop is closed. And then we eat!

New year, new cups! These ones are fully compostable (not just commercially), even at home, just like our retail bags. Baby steps toward putting a little less in our landfills.

… also, they’re double-walled for hotter coffee, and cooler hands. Thanks to our stellar cup model, Henry!

Finca Rosita by Valverde Rosita Family | Caranavi, Bolivia | Washed Process

Finca Rosita is located in the Illimani Community within Caranavi, Bolivia. The farm is dedicated solely to coffee — though the surrounding area is home to potato, quinoa, plantain, and yucca farms, creating a well-integrated terroir. The area also grows bountiful pineapple and citrus fruits. The distinct Andean terrain lends itself to a nice complexity in the coffees grown here. This variety, the Java variety, is renowned for excellent cup quality and clean fruit — all of which is present in this coffee, plus a warming spice note. We taste pink lady apple, chocolate meringue and cardamom twist. 🍎 🍫 🥐

Guayabales by Pedro Villatoro | Huehuetenango, Guatemala | Washed Process

Pedro’s farm, Guayabales, has built a reputation for growing coffees that are bright and sweet with balanced acidity. He has a patient and steady demeanor, which speaks to the quality and consistency of his coffees, harvest after harvest. The lot where this coffee is grown has a fair amount of shade — from trees, from the slope where it sits in the Hoja Mountains offering shade cover during the mornings, and from the often-present fog in the area. In the crop, this shade lends itself to a slower rate of growth and higher development of sugars within the coffee. This translates beautifully to the cup. Pedro’s sons work on his farm alongside him and help to innovate processing techniques — their coffees get even better year after year.

Books being written, zoom interviews, class lectures, first dates, last(?) dates, meetings of the mind, catch-ups between friends, strangers who become friends, a whole lot of laughter, even a few parties here and there… and of course, many, many coffees devoured 📚 ☕️ 🌱

We can’t wait to pour you something and share the stories behind these coffees! We’ve been fans of Drip since before we made the move from NYC to VT and we’re pumped to return, this time on the other side of the bar.
