A weekend in Big Sur! Come join me as I celebrated my 50th birthday in Big Sur, California, the most beautiful place on earth in my opinion. 🌊🌿 First stop is monastery Beach. Just south of Carmel along Highway 1, Monastery Beach is one of those places that makes you want to pull over and take it all in. Named after the nearby Carmelite Monastery, this beautiful stretch of coastline is known for its turquoise water, dramatic waves, and stunning views of the Pacific.

Don’t let that gorgeous water fool you, though! Monastery Beach has earned the nickname “Mortuary Beach” because of its powerful shorebreak, steep underwater drop-off, and dangerous currents. It’s considered one of the most dangerous beaches in California for swimming.

Definitely a place to admire from the shore, and a beautiful first stop on our way down the Big Sur coast!
