On our coldest morning yet this season, the aurora danced over Katahdin, lighting up the dark skies across Millinocket Lake.

Fun fact: The tall pillars in the northern lights are called auroral rays! They form as charged particles follow Earth’s magnetic field lines and collide with gases high in the atmosphere, causing those gases to glow.
