On The Marquee: Co**se Reviver
In a city overflowing with musical talent, Co**se Reviver stands out by looking backward—way backward. Since forming in 2010 as a tribute to the legendary Harry Smith Anthology of American Folk Music, the band has devoted itself to resurrecting the sounds of early American recordings, drawing from old-time, folk, blues, and fiddle traditions.
We caught up with Mikkel Beckman, the band's esteemed washboard player who's played for nearly three decades across several bands you may know and love from around the city, including our own Jeff Ray & The Stakes. Beckman says the Twin Cities features some of, if not the most diverse acoustic acts you'll find in the country, and that community is certainly not taken for granted. Minneapolis, he says, is rich with venues that make it easy to stumble into an unforgettable live show. Favorites include Cedar Cultural Center, Hook and Ladder Theater, and the ever-lively 331 Club.
If you're looking for a good show, Mikkel says you can catch Co**se Reviver this summer at Blue Ox Music Festival, the Nisswa Folk Festival, and of course, right here in Hell for FREE tomorrow, May 30th from 10am-1pm.
