Red Hen Baking Co. was started by Randy George and Eliza Cain in Duxbury, VT. Fresh from Portland, Oregon, they returned to Eliza's home state and began baking Organic, Artisanal bread. 14 years later, the bakery is now located in Middlesex, VT, with a cafe featuring great coffee and espresso drink and homemade soups and sandwiches featuring locally grown ingredients. The cafe is also the only place to get your hands on our amazing, authentic, seasonally changing pastries .

Today is a very special day because it’s Grace’s birthday! Grace has been with us at Red Hen for 16 years! She helps us label all the bread bags that go to grocery stores. Any loaf you see with a sticker on the bag is her handy work. Grace loves dogs, traveling, and is great at remembering people’s birthdays. Grace, thank you for all your years of hard work at Red Hen. We hope you’re having a fabulous birthday!

Farmer spotlight: Ananda Gardens! Located just about 10 minutes from our new downtown Montpelier location, this certified organic family-owned farm provides us with the lettuce mix used for our house salads. Today is the last day to come sit at your favorite cafe table with your favorite Red Hen treat! Tomorrow, we’ll still be serving coffee, bread, pastries, and grab and go sandwiches, but we’ll be doing it from the creemee window so we can get a little head start on the rest of our moving tasks.
