Line Cook / Prep Table Employee Job Description

Position: Line Cook / Prep Table
Department: Kitchen
Reports To: Kitchen Manager / Management

Job Summary

The Line Cook / Prep Table Employee is responsible for preparing food orders quickly, accurately, and consistently while maintaining a clean, organized, and properly stocked workstation. This position plays an important role in keeping the kitchen running smoothly and ensuring customers receive fresh, high-quality food.

Primary Job Responsibilities

1. Food Preparation

Prepare sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, hoagies, salads, and other menu items according to restaurant standards.

Assemble orders with the correct toppings, condiments, and portions.

Follow recipes and portion guidelines to maintain consistency.

Prepare vegetables, meats, cheeses, sauces, and other ingredients for daily service.

Check food for freshness, appearance, and quality before serving.

2. Prep Table Responsibilities

Keep the prep table fully stocked throughout the shift.

Refill toppings, condiments, sauces, and other ingredients before they run out.

Keep all food containers covered, labeled, and properly refrigerated.

Rotate food using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method.

Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized prep station.

Monitor ingredient levels and notify management when supplies are running low.

3. Order Accuracy and Speed

Read kitchen tickets carefully and prepare orders exactly as requested.

Pay special attention to modifications, substitutions, and special requests.

Work efficiently during busy lunch and dinner rushes.

Communicate with grill cooks, fry cooks, and other kitchen employees to ensure orders are completed together.

Double-check completed orders before sending them out.

4. Cleaning and Sanitation

Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations.

Wash hands regularly and practice proper food handling.

Clean and sanitize prep surfaces, utensils, and equipment.

Maintain proper hot and cold food holding temperatures.

5. Opening and Closing Duties
