The MarKum Inn

The MarKum Inn Wood-fired dining, craft cocktails & outdoor patio in Mt. Angel, Oregon. Restaurant, bar & your favorite gathering place for group dining. Open 7 Days a Week!

Weekend Brunch, Lunch & Dinner. Another update in : The 125-year-old restaurant is welcoming guests again. The casual steakhouse outside Mt. Angel and Silverton soft-opened the weekend of Jan. 7, after the final blessing of the fire marshal Jan. 6. The restaurant intended to open Jan. 4, but owner Mark Burnett was delayed after an inspection that day. The restaurant will officially ope

n Tuesday, Jan. 10, according to general manager Julio Valera. The restaurant specializes in locally sourced steaks and classic American fare, including what Burnett calls "wood-fired food," a cheeky reference to the restaurant's fiery history. Burnett rebuilt the restaurant after a fire destroyed the former building in 2014. Flames have plagued the MarKum Inn for years, with at least two fires in recent history closing the restaurant for periods of time. In 1950, the restaurant was known as the Marquam Tavern, before it crumbled in a blaze and reopened in the '70s. "(A Marquam local)’s wife collects matchbooks," Burnett says, holding a small white matchbook with worn edges. "Sully and Vi owned the restaurant, or tavern as it was known then, the Marquam Tavern, ... and we loved this: 'Easy to find, hard to leave,' was their logo." The MarKum Inn is hard to miss: The large rancher-style sign juts out over Highway 213 in the intersection of Marquam, where there's little besides a small store and a church. Its popularity with Salem, Silverton, Mt. Angel and various Marion County ranchers kept the restaurant alive for over 100 years. Now, under new ownership, that popularity has no sign of slowing. "Stop on by, we're likely to be swamped," Valera said. Brooke Jackson-Glidden, Statesman Journal Published 12:52 p.m. PT Jan. 9, 2017 | Updated 9:10 a.m. PT Jan. 10, 2017

Our BBQ chicken wood-oven pizza is what happens when the wood fire and the BBQ sauce decide to team up. Tangy, smoky, sweet, charred where it counts, with cheese pull that has no business being this good on a weeknight.

Dine in at The Markum Inn, grab a seat at the bar, or take a slice out to the patio. It pairs absurdly well with a cold beer, a Crown Peach Two Step, or honestly whatever is closest.

The Markum Inn is a wood fired centered restaurant in Mt. Angel, Oregon. Craft cocktails, an outdoor patio, group dining, and the kind of pizza you start craving by noon.

See you tonight!

Lighter days call for lighter plates, and ours come piled high.

Our beet and avocado salad has been quietly stealing the show. Roasted beets, ripe avocado, a citrus dressing that pulls everything together, and a generous side of shrimp to make it a meal. It is bright, it is filling, and it absolutely earns its main course spot on the spring menu.

Order it as a starter for the table or add the shrimp and make it dinner. Either way, it pairs perfectly with a glass of something cold from the bar. We are partial to the new Saloon Spritz, but you do you.

Find us in Mt. Angel, Oregon. The wood oven is going, the patio is open, and the spring menu is in full swing. Come hungry.

Two stars of our Mother's Day brunch menu in Mt. Angel:

Eggs Florentine. We start with our buttery homemade English muffin, layer it with grilled tomato and wilted spinach, top it with a perfectly poached egg, and finish with silky hollandaise. Served alongside breakfast potatoes. It is the kind of plate she will be telling her sister about on Monday morning.

Avocado Toast. A thick slice of Texas toast piled with creamy avocado, bright arugula, and pickled onion. Crowned with two eggs, a finish of feta, and a generous spoon of our homemade chili crisp. Familiar enough to feel like home, surprising enough to feel like a treat.

Round the table out with our Poached Pear Salad. Mixed greens tossed in sherry vinaigrette, layered with poached pear, blue cheese, and candied pepitas. Spring on a plate, and a Markum favorite that earns its keep on the Mother's Day menu year after year.

Weather permitting, our patio will be open for brunch and dinner service. There is no better way to spend a slow Mother's Day morning in Mt. Angel than at an outdoor table with a poached egg, a hot coffee, and the kind of soft May light the Willamette Valley only gives up in spring. If outdoor dining is the way to her heart, request a patio table when you call.

The Markum Inn sits in the heart of Mt. Angel, just up Highway 213 from Silverton, a short drive from Salem, Keizer, and Woodburn, and right at the front door of Willamette Valley wine country. If you have been searching for the best Mother's Day brunch in Mt. Angel or anywhere in the mid valley, this is the morning to find us.

Reservations are highly encouraged. Call 503.829.6006 to reserve hers.

The thing Mom actually wants for Mother's Day? Not to lift a finger.

On Sunday, May 10, the Markum Inn is opening the doors for one of our favorite Sundays of the year. Mother's Day at the Markum is a slow, warm, all afternoon kind of day. The kind where the coffee gets refilled before she has to ask. The kind where the only choice she has to make is brunch or dinner. Or, honestly, why not both.

Brunch service runs 10am to 2pm. Dinner picks up at 2pm and runs straight through close. Our spring menu has been built around the holiday, with buttery Eggs Florentine and a Texas toast Avocado Toast on the brunch side, and Steak Dianne and Pistachio Crusted Ahi Tuna anchoring dinner. Our Poached Pear Salad sits on the menu all day long.

If you have been meaning to bring her here, this is the Sunday to do it. If you have been a hundred times, you already know what makes Mother's Day brunch in Mt. Angel feel like a real occasion. We sit just up the road from Silverton, an easy drive from Salem, Keizer, and Woodburn, and right in the middle of the Willamette Valley spring most people only see in pictures.

Reservations are filling fast and we keep our dining room intentionally small. Call us at 503.829.6006 to lock in her time before the room is gone.

We cannot wait to host her! 🌺
