Confession: the first time someone told us to put seaweed in a smoothie, we made a face. Then we tried it.

Irish sea moss is a red seaweed that grows along the rocky North Atlantic coast. Kitchens blend it into a gel, and that gel is the secret behind a silky, extra smooth smoothie. It doesn't taste like the ocean at all, we checked. Several times. For science.

It's the not-so-secret ingredient in our Mystic Island: coconut milk, fresh ginger, pineapple, mango, and banana, with sea moss blended right in. Tropical, a little zingy from the ginger, and creamy enough that people keep asking if there's ice cream in it (there isnt).

Mount Shasta in November isn't exactly beach weather, so consider this your little island vacation at 315 Chestnut St.

Be honest in the comments: would you have tried a seaweed smoothie before reading this, or are we the ones who talked you into it?

Fun fact that we can't stop telling people: "ashwagandha" is Sanskrit for roughly "smell of the horse." Named after the earthy smell of the raw root. Not after the taste, we promise.

It's a root from the nightshade family (same big family as tomatoes and peppers, which is wild) and it's been part of Ayurvedic tradition for thousands of years. Somehow it still doesn't get as much attention as it's cousin the tomato.

You'll find it in our Ashwagandha Fire: organic locally roasted espresso, whole milk, and our "fire" mocha sauce, so it's deep and chocolatey with a little kick of heat at the end, plus organic ashwagandha root blended right in. Smooth, a bit smoky, a bit spicy. Basically the perfect drink for the night before Halloween.

Come grab one at 315 Chestnut St. And tell us in the comments: how spicy do you like your mocha, a gentle tingle or full dragon mode?

PSA: this smoothie is green on purpose. Nobody blended a lawn. (We checked.)

A big part of that color is spirulina, a blue-green algae that grows in fresh water. Technically it's a cyanobacterium, which is a very fancy word to drop at a dinner party. By dry weight it's suprisingly protein-dense, and it's the reason the Power Green looks like it came straight out of a forest.

Here's what's actually in there: kale, spinach, spirulina and our Supergreen Boost, mellowed out with banana, almond butter, oat milk and a touch of agave. The banana and almond butter do a lot of heavy lifting, so it tastes way more like a creamy treat than a salad you have to drink. Promise. Mostly.

Swing by 315 Chestnut St and judge the color for yourself. Be honest in the comments: does a green smoothie make you go "ooh" or "uhh"?

Fall is officially here, which means we are legally required to put something golden in your coffee.

Meet turmeric. It's a root from the ginger family, and that sunny color comes from a compound called curcumin. It's been stirred into warm milky drinks for centuries, and honestly the ancestors were onto something.

Our Turmeric Mocha is organic locally roasted espresso, organic mocha and an organic golden milk powder with turmeric in it. It tastes like a cozy chocolatey latte that went on a little spice adventure and came back with stories. No, it does not taste like curry. We get asked that alot.

Come warm your hands on one at 315 Chestnut St. Tell us in the comments, are you a turmeric person or are you still on the fence?

What is Maca Root, and why would we put it in our smoothies??

You can add Maca to any coffee or smoothie, but it comes with our famous Protein Mushroom Nut Smoothie!

Hot take from the kitchen: avocado is a berry. A big, bumpy, single-seed berry. Botanists said so, we're just the messengers.

It's also mostly the good kind of fat (monounsaturated, if you want to sound smart at brunch) and it has more potassium per gram than a banana, which feels like something bananas should be told gently.

We go through a truly embarassing number of them. Avocado mash is on all three of our toasts: the Avocado Delta in the pic (tomatoes, goat cheese, balsamic glaze on sourdough), the Avocado Bravo with hard-boiled egg and microgreens, and the Avocado Tango with house pickled onions, bacon bits, cucumbers and cilantro lime drizzle. It also shows up on the Telos Mothership salad and the Blasted Vegan and Timestopper bagels, and you can add it to any Build-A-Bowl.

Come find yours at 315 Chestnut St. And settle this for us in the comments: Team Bravo, Team Delta, or Team Tango?

Confession: we put tiny golden flower dust on our acai bowls and we're not sorry.

That's bee pollen. Bees collect it from flowers and roll it into little granules, which is honestly more effort than most of us put into breakfast. It's slightly sweet, a little floral, and it gives your bowl that crunchy sprinkle you didn't know you needed.

It's on our Acai Bowl with cacao nibs, which are just crushed cacao beans, aka chocolate before anyone added sugar to it. So yes, you can technically have chocolate for breakfast here. We dont make the rules.

Come build your own at 315 Chestnut St. Tell us your topping combo in the comments, the weirder the better
