The last few days haven’t been easy, but one thing has become so clear… our community is incredible.

To everyone who has walked through our doors, shared kind words, checked in on us, or simply chose to support our small business thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

A post was made about another Mexican restaurant in town, on the Mount Vernon Mo Bulletin Board and in the comments someone brought up a false accusation about something that supposedly happened years ago at El Maya. I responded because I believe every business deserves the opportunity to defend itself against misinformation. Unfortunately, my comments were never approved by the group admins and were deleted before anyone could see them. That’s disappointing because if false accusations are allowed to stay up, the business being accused should also be given the chance to respond with the facts. It’s sad how quickly rumors can spread when people don’t take the time to verify the truth or simply ask first.

They also stated that the owners didn’t take the situation seriously, which is completely false. The individual being referenced has not worked for El Maya for years. When the situation came to our attention, it was handled appropriately. The safety of our customers has always been, and always will be, our top priority.

What is especially disappointing is that false statements like these don’t just affect my husband and me they also hurt the hardworking employees who show up every day, take pride in their jobs, and help make our business what it is. They don’t deserve to have their workplace and reputation damaged by rumors or misinformation.

We understand people may have questions, but repeating hearsay as fact without knowing the truth can cause real harm to a small, family owned business. We have always been willing to answer questions honestly, and we simply ask that people verify information before making public accusations.
