This Thursday, 16 July, we’re delighted to welcome Fintan Warfield back to The Burren Public House.

A gifted singer, guitarist, and storyteller from Dublin, Fintan has toured extensively with Derek Warfield & the Young Wolfe Tones, performing at renowned festivals and venues including Milwaukee Irish Fest, Irish Fair of Minnesota, the Glasgow Barrowlands, Balver Höhle Irish Folk & Celtic Music Festival in Germany, Rí Rá at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, and Team Ireland’s Olympic House during the London 2012 Games.

Beyond the stage, Fintan spent a decade in Irish public life. He served two terms as a Sinn Féin Senator (2016–2025) on the Cultural and Educational Panel after becoming the youngest-ever Mayor of South Dublin County Council. During his time in office, he was a prominent advocate for the arts, culture, housing, and civil rights before returning to music full-time.

Expect an evening of powerful ballads, traditional Irish songs, and the stories behind them from one of Ireland’s finest contemporary folk performers.

A number of you have asked if we’re showing the Conor McGregor fight this weekend. We love the sport at The Burren and we’re always eager to sponsor local fighters. However, after consideration, we’ve collectively decided as owners to follow the lead of numerous Irish pubs, retailers, and boxing clubs that have chosen to dissociate from him after he was found civilly liable for r**e and assault. Bars pay thousands to show these fights, and so it becomes in a bar’s interest to get as many of you in as possible to watch. But at what other kinds of expense? On a personal level, I’m not an attorney and I don’t presume to know anything about what’s in someone else’s heart or life, but I was very much raised by women and I am a proud father of daughters. Like many of you, I also grew up in a culture of absolute silence surrounding violence against women, sexual abuse, as well as the fear of public shaming for talking about it. And I’d rather not tell my daughters - or my son - or my mother who still asks Christ and the Blessed Mother to intercede for me each day that I made a few thousand dollars perpetuating that. — Matt

Congratulations to our own Linda Mancini, whose recent stage performance in The House of Bernarda Alba was featured in VOGUE Mexico. In addition to being co-owner of The Burren, Linda is a Canadian-American actress, dancer, writer, and award-winning performance artist whose work spans theater, film, and experimental performance. A recipient of the prestigious Bessie Award for her contributions to contemporary dance and performance, she has built a career exploring the intersection of movement, storytelling, and visual art. Her screen credits include This Is Not About You, which aired nationally on PBS’s American Playhouse, as well as an Academy Award-winning short film. Throughout her career, Mancini has been recognized for creating bold, thought-provoking work that blends physical performance with innovative theatrical expression.
