🛳 From Manhattan to Astoria — one ferry ride, a whole neighborhood's worth of art, history, and heart. ✨️
This walking tour was spearheaded and organized by Richard Khuzami of the Old Astoria Neighborhood Association, in partnership with NYC Ferry, Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC), Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center, The Noguchi Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, and Welling Court Neighborhood Association.
We brought seniors from the Stanley Isaacs Neighborhood Center on the East Side of Manhattan across the water to explore one of NYC's oldest and most storied neighborhoods — 200-year-old Victorian homes standing next to brand new towers, an open-air street art project around every corner, a park literally reclaimed from a landfill, and a museum built by a legendary sculptor who made this corner of Queens his home.
With gratitude to:
Layla Musawwir — NYCHA Outreach Lead, NYC Ferry
Richard Khuzami — Old Astoria Neighborhood Association
Luigi Pepe — Welling Court Neighborhood Association
Shaun Leonardo — Executive Director, Socrates Sculpture Park
Anita Chang — Program Coordinator, Stanley Isaacs Neighborhood Center
