I am terribly saddened by the sudden passing of dear friend and pillar of the community, Barry Youngerman. From my earliest days in New York navigating my gay Jewish identity, Barry was there to provide friendship and guidance. He was such a supporter of all of our work in the community and was a frequent attendee of Friday Night Lights. It was an honor and a privilege to have him in so many of our lives. Barry was, in the truest sense, a kid at heart. His joie de vivre and leadership will be deeply missed.

His funeral will be this Tuesday, 12 noon, at Riverside Chapel, 180 west 76th street. Shiva details to follow. May his memory be a blessing. Baruch Dayan HaEmet.

Friday Night Lights Events is proud to be a leading partner of this "groundbreaking global forum" next week in Salzburg, Austria.

"If the events of last week have taught us anything, it is that there is still much work to be done within our Jewish communities and in the world at large," said Robert J. Saferstein.

"We see how vital the cultivation of a global network such as Eighteen:22 is in order to learn from each other, to reflect upon the new challenges we face today, and to discuss the steps needed to advance positive change. I am encouraged by the potential of what we can build together."

VICTORY! Just over a month ago at our last Shabbat dinner, we were hopeful that what happened today would be a reality. If you will it, it is no dream. "The court now holds that same-sex couples may exercise the fundamental right to marry. No longer may this liberty be denied to them." Chag Sameach!
