deaux // AP Mat Room // NYC edition
About 3 weeks ago, our good friends at re-launched their collective, and they decided to have it in New York. We wanted to be there, but with that 6PM event in NY and a pre-scheduled 7AM event the next morning in Costa Mesa, there wasn’t a possible way for us to make that happen. Well, at deaux, we try everything we can to make things happen. And, you know we had to take doughnuts with us.
1AM start in the shop to make doughnuts. 3AM drive to LAX for a 6AM flight. 2.5 hour delay at LAX. 1 hour in NY rush-hour traffic to finally arrive at to surprise our guys over . Due to the earlier flight delay, we only were able to spend 45 minutes at the event, so we turned around to sit in 1 hour traffic back to the airport that same night. Sprinting to the gate, nearly missing the flight back by 4 minutes. Flying back all night to land in LA at 1:30AM and back to deaux by 4AM, just to head out by 6AM for the event in Costa Mesa. Does your head hurt yet? Ours does too.
38 hours straight. 4 hours in New York, to spend just 45 minutes at an event where we connected with our family, to rush back the same night to make an event hours later in Costa Mesa. Some people called us crazy. We call ourselves determined. Some people said it made no sense. To us it made perfect sense. The Jiu Jitsu world is a community that has deep ties to family and tradition, and these align with our core beliefs at deaux. Shoutout to our entire team for making this happen.
