Located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Koneko has an artisanal Japanese-influenced menu. We also have an architect-designed space, including a revolving exhibition of world-class artwork, and a first-of-its-kind outdoor Catio. Koneko’s central mission is to find forever homes for high-risk shelter cats from the city’s kill list. We currently foster cats from Anjellicle Cats Rescue.

We still have spaces for meet and greets on Monday 7/27, and Wednesday 7/29!

We have about one week until we close, and 15 cats that still need homes or foster placements.

We’ve had some cats go home and to fosters over the past few weeks (woohoo!!), but many of our kittens and long stay cats are still available!

During meet and greets, each approved adopter will be able to spend a (free) private half hour in the cattery, where they can mingle with our adoptable cats, chat with rescue and Koneko staff, and make a plan for drop-off.

You can inquire with either group about a specific cat, or submit a general application if you aren’t sure who you’re interested in yet and would like to spend some time with the cats first- we’ll help you find your perfect match!

Gremlin is our final intake at Koneko, and she is so special 💛 we are so honored to have been able to host so many wonderful cats over the past decade, and so thankful that Gremlin got the chance find a temporary home with us off the streets.

Grem is about 5 years old, but she is teeny tiny! She is as small as our 6 month old kittens- but her tiny body packs a big personality!

Gremlin is a friendly, silly, chill gal. She is always excited to see her people in the morning and will greet you with her silly creaky meow as she rubs against your legs. Her meow is HILARIOUS! and we can’t believe how itty bitty she is!!!

We are hosting dedicated meet and greet days for approved adopters for our remaining cats! 🫶

On Monday 7/27, and Wednesday 7/29, we will be hosting “meet and greet days” so that serious, pre-approved adopters can get the chance to meet our cats before we close.

Each approved adopter will be able to spend a (free) private half hour in the cattery, where they can mingle with our adoptable cats, chat with rescue and Koneko staff, and make a plan for drop-off.

These time slots will have to be reserved in advance as Koneko will not be open to the public during these days. Meet Mavis!

Mavis is a 7 month old chatty guy who is soooo cuddly!! He absolutely adores being pet and loves nuzzling into your arms. He is sooo small and soft. He likes to talk, and has a lot to say! He is one of our final intakes at Koneko and was a little bit nervous at first, but as soon as he realized that everyone is here to pet him and be nice to him, he was overjoyed and started making biscuits right away!

Darling Dallas is looking for her foster or forever home! 🤠🌵🏜️ Can you believe she hasn’t had much interest? neither can we :(

Dallas is a petite tortico princess with a tiny heart of gold. Tortitude? She’s never heard of it! Dallas is sweet and chill and loves to be pet. She is a very social girl and will need a cat buddy in her forever home. She wants someone to play tag with!

Dallas was our final Cat of the month at Koneko. We let her have the title for 2 months because she is just that special (and because our Dallas themed drink of the month was so popular)!

For the past 10 years, Koneko has been honored to serve as a holding space for two incredible rescue partners: Anjellicle Cat Rescue and RescueNYC. Together, we’ve helped more than 500 cats stay out of the shelter system and find loving forever homes.

With Koneko closing on July 31, both rescues are losing an important part of their adoption network. Many of you have asked how you can help during this transition, and the greatest gift you can give is supporting the rescues that made Koneko possible.

For this fundraiser, we’re focusing on RescueNYC. As an extremely small, all-volunteer rescue with limited holding space and resources, the loss of Koneko will have an especially significant impact. Every dollar raised will go directly toward food, litter, medical care, transportation, and the ongoing care of the cats who depend on them.

We also want to recognize Anjellicle Cat Rescue, whose dedication has helped change the lives of hundreds of cats alongside us over the past decade. They, too, are navigating this transition, and we encourage anyone who is able to support their work through donations, fostering, volunteering, adopting, or simply sharing their mission.

To both rescues: thank you for trusting us with your cats and for the tireless work you do every single day.

And to our community; thank you. Your support has helped hundreds of cats find safety, healing, and loving homes. 💛

Cosmic and Nova, our April cats of the month, are still looking for their forever home together!

We can’t believe it- cats as gorgeous as these 1 year old sisters usually get snatched up quickly, and given how sweet and well-behaved these ladies are, it’s even more crazy that they’re still here! Won’t somebody take these girls home?

Cosmic (long hair) is our current “Queen of Koneko”- she likes to sit at the top of the stairs, ensuring she gets attention from everyone who passes her by. She is a feisty but friendly girl who loves to play! and she definitely knows how gorgeous she is.

Nova is such a pretty pretty dilute calico! She has a tiny soft mew and is a very sweet, easy, laid-back lady. She is easy to hold like a baby and likes belly scratches.

As we prepare for our closing date on July 31st, we’ve made the decision to close on Wednesdays moving forward.
Our updated hours will be Thursday–Sunday, 11:00 AM–8:00 PM.

Please note that the cattery will close daily from 3:00–4:00 PM for the cats’ lunch break, while the café will remain open during that time.

MEEEEP!!!!

Fluffy, silly, snuggly Meep is looking for her foster or forever home! Anyone would be lucky to take home miss Meep.

Meep is a little firecracker who loves to play and run, but also adores her morning cuddles and will make biscuits on your shoulder while you hold her in your arms. She is almost a year old, and gets along well with other outgoing and friendly cats who like to play hard, and wouldn’t mind having another energetic kitty friend at home- although it’s not required, she could also go solo!

Marnie is very intelligent and would be a great companion for someone looking for a chill and laid back little friend. She likes to play with string and wand toys and is around 2 years old.

Jasmine (black) is our resident cuddle bug! Whenever she sees her favorite people take a seat, she beelines to their laps, and nestles in for a good snuggle. She has a little white tummy and is very calm and easygoing.

These beautiful girls are both such a joy. They are bonded and they love to loaf next to each other! They will make a perfect pair for anyone looking for a pair of easy, friendly, chill cats.

Attention: Alvie and Maggie are some of the cutest cats we’ve ever seen ever, and they need to find a forever or foster home together!

Alvie (grey) is a literal plush teddy bear. He is a goofy, silly boy who loves to snack, and loves his people and his sister. He is just full of love, and look at his little ear tufts!

Maggie (calico) is as cute as a button, and is a gentle, friendly little lady! She is just as soft and silly as her brother, but is a bit more graceful and dainty (he’s kind of a big dork).

Sardine is such a chill and laid back little man. He is easy to scoop up and snuggle and does not mind being absolutely covered in kisses on his little head. He is very brave and friendly!

Tetra is a little princess who is OBSESSED with spring toys and bouncy balls! She is very soft and likes to be pet behind the ears.

Loving & intelligent Checker needs to find a forever or foster home!

Checker has been with us for a year and a half. He just turned two years old! He is such a sweet and smart baby boy.

Checker is the only boy in a litter of six kittens. His sisters were adopted, and we don’t know why it’s taken him so long to find a home, as he’s a perfect cat.

Checker loves to sit in laps, and he loves (REALLY loves) wand toys! He is cuddly and playful and sweet, while also independent, smart, and super laid back. Sometimes he sits like a rotisserie chicken, so we like to call him Checker Chicken. We think he might secretly be a little guy in a very convincing cat costume.
