We at Little Skips want to hold space for the voices that have been brutally silenced; for the long history of Black oppression, Black violence and Black murder; for all the pain resonating in our country right now. This isn’t about any other race. Everyone must stand in solidarity and know that change for equity and equality must start in the heart the individual.

Close your eyes, take a moment, take a deep breathe and feel what it feels like to be hated, judged and oppressed for the color of your skin. We feel You. We hear You, our Black brothers and sisters. We ask all others to not just post and repost, because that is way too easy; BUT WHAT WILL YOU DO AFTER? How can each of us continue to fight against racism, injustice and inequality? Let’s do more than just post today, tomorrow. We must do more to connect and to empower our Black community.

Wow, what dimension did we transport to? If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Alberto at Little Skips East, you probably fell immediately in love and realized he’s one of the most kind and gentle human beings on the planet. His love for his work, his customers and his friends is immeasurable. In Alberto, you have a friend for life and we truly love and adore him 🥰

“I’ve worked at Skips for over a year— Mitch, one of the OG skippers, rescued me from my previous job at a cafe in the Financial District. I like making matcha lattes, but my favorite drink to consume is drip coffee—especially Ethiopian coffees! My favorite memory of serving coffee was when I made a flat white for Debbie Harry of Blondie while working at Little Skips East— she even winked at me! When I’m not serving my awesome customers, I like to doodle, make music and write— staying connected with friends and family brings me so much joy. I’d like to tell our customers that I miss y’all and hope you’re all holding up okay! Please reach out if you feel like it, I have plenty of time to catch up with you.

A graduate of FIT, she is passionate about promoting and creating sustainable fashions and was helping to organize our Zerowaste Fair that was to take place this April (now postponed). “I’ve been working at Baby Skips since September 2019- 6 months now, which is wild! My favorite drink to make is any of our specials. I love to practice my latte art with whole milk and oat milk and make the prettiest drinks for people and see them smile 😊 My favorite drink to consume, however, is an oat cappuccino (preferably with a chocolate croissant to dip in it!) I always love talking to strangers and getting to know my customers- I’ve met some of the most amazing and talented humans through working in coffee (both as coworkers and customers) and I dont know where I’d be without them!When I’m not working at Skips, I’m most likely thrifting or spending time with my cats or practicing roller skating. But I can usually be found perusing any art supply or even hardware store, looking for ideas for my next project. I make clothes and jewelry, I draw and paint, Ive been getting into photography, and love to play with new materials and repair clothing! I’m working to sell some of my art as well as repair clothing and sewing face masks for my neighbors!

Rae is a ray of light for many of us 💫. They began slingin coffee at our first Little Skips location on Willoughby and Myrtle and eventually transitioned to help manage Baby Skips. We want to begin sharing our Skipper stories since we have had to close all our shops last week and ask if you’re able to help support your favorite neighborhood barista during this time of need. “I've been at Skips for almost 3 years. My favorite drink to make is a cappuccino with whole milk, and my favorite to consume would have to be an americano, which is pretty much always the first thing I make myself after I dial in. I have many great memories of making ghost latte art in people's drinks in October and getting joyful reactions from people I'd never seen smile before! Besides art, I love taking care of my plants, baking and sharing the results with others, and having outdoor adventures with friends and family
(sadly this last one isn't really possible right now).
I know this is a hard time for so many people, and the difficult feelings that we're all having are valid. Despite the struggle, I'm proud to see so many people acting in ways that benefit the larger community and protect those of us who are more vulnerable, such as continuing to practice social distancing, participating in mutual aid, and demanding reform in our societal structures. The day has finally come to close all our doors *temporarily*

We are so grateful for our dedicated staff and loyal customers. Thank you all for you kindness, support and love through this difficult time. Know you are not alone. We have built something special and now must take time to pause and reflect. We will be back, all of us, stronger and better than ever. Until then, stay tuned for ways to help support our staff through the closures and ways to continue to stay connected to each other and the beautiful community we have cultivated.

In an effort to keep Little Skips a safe and welcoming environment for all we have put together enhanced cafe protocols for our staff. These protocols will keep all staff and customers safe. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding with these changes.
