The Original Joe Sandwich – A San Francisco Classic in a Bun
Inspired by the famous “Joe’s Special” from San Francisco, this hearty sandwich combines seasoned ground beef, eggs, and greens, all tucked into warm bread for a comforting, protein-packed meal.
📋 Ingredients
300 g ground beef
2 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 cups fresh spinach (or Swiss chard), roughly chopped
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp paprika
4 sandwich rolls (toasted)
Optional: shredded cheese, sliced pickles, or chili flakes for garnish
👩🍳 Directions
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until soft and fragrant.
Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
Stir in spinach and cook until wilted.
Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
Pour in beaten eggs and scramble gently with the meat mixture until just set.
Spoon the filling generously onto toasted sandwich rolls.
Add optional toppings if desired, then serve warm.
💡 Tips
For a richer flavor, toast the bread with a light brushing of olive oil or butter.
Swap spinach with kale or arugula for a different twist.
This filling also works great inside a tortilla for a quick wrap version.
Best enjoyed fresh, but you can prep the filling in advance and reheat before assembling.
