Sister property of Waterstruck Wellness Nordic Spa & Sauna. Newcastle Inn is located in the Damariscotta Region of the Pemaquid Peninsula. This historic Bed & Breakfast provides elegant and comfortable surroundings with serene views of the Damariscotta River. The common areas (living room, three-season porch, sitting room, pub, and deck) of the B&B provide a variety of areas to sit and relax while

visiting with other guests, or you can find your own quiet corner to enjoy just by yourself. There is complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the inn and a guest pantry with complimentary beverages. And of course a delicious, full breakfast is served each morning – outside on the deck in the summer! The guest rooms all have private baths, a king or a queen bed with one room having two twin beds. For those occasional summer days that need it, all guest rooms are equipped with air conditioners. Some guest rooms have a TV and a gas fireplace or gas stove. Our bed and breakfast is a perfect "home base" for exploring nearby Boothbay Harbor, Monhegan Island, Freeport, Portland, Rockland, and Camden; all of which are all less than an hours drive. While close to these tourist areas, the twin villages of Newcastle and Damariscotta provide a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of these busier areas all the while offering you historic charm, a variety of restaurants, and unique shopping and activities. At the end of a busy day, return to the quiet and tranquility of the Newcastle Inn. Directions:
From the South (Portland)

Take I-95 North to Exit 52 which connects you to I-295 North
Take I-295 north to Exit 28 (Brunswick) and stay on this road until you turn left at the light to get on to Rte. 1 North
Stay on Rte. 1 North and after the Wiscasset bridge go approximately 6 miles. Just after the Newcastle Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealership, turn right onto Snead Spur. Stay on Snead Spur as it bears to the left and River Road joins it. Newcastle Inn is a ½ mile ahead on the right. From the North (Bar Harbor, Camden, Rockland)

Take Rte. 1 South passing the signs for Damariscotta/Business Rte. 1A
After passing the Exit for Rte. 215, watch for the signs that say Newcastle and River Road and turn left onto this road which is Snead Spur.

Next up is Ashley's favorite room.

The Winter Harbor room has its own private entrance and a private deck that looks out to the water and the woods with the most perfect view for the sunrise.

There's a shower and tub for a soak complete with soaking salts(!) and the deck is exactly the kind of place where you sit down with a book and look up three hours later.

Kyle claims the Monhegan Island room as his favorite, and we’re not going to argue with him. Lux king bed, a beautiful fireplace, hidden TV, and a corner that gets great light. It’s a room that feels considered. It’s bright, a little stately, the kind of place you settle into.

Guests always seem to take their time getting out the door in the morning, maybe bring a cup of coffee up after breakfast. We’ll let the room speak for itself… but Kyle will absolutely try and convince you to try Monhegan for your next stay at breakfast if you give him the chance.

We've been here for just about three weeks and in that time we've gotten so many great tidbits of history from repeat guests, neighbors and friends.

We've heard that Julia Child stayed and ate breakfast here (I think Chef Kyle would have a heart attack) and Joni Mitchell wrote a song in the basement when the inn was also an antique doll museum (you can't make this stuff up!). In just the last couple of weeks we've had guests that enjoyed cooking classes in the 80's here or have been coming to the inn for a Maine vacation since the early 2000's.

we LOVE it and we want more of it.

some sweet scenes from our first couple-a weeks as innkeepers!

the gardens are poppin’, we’ve introduced fridges in every room AND a nespresso machine AND new guidebooks with some of our favorite spots (some 🤫🤫 ones too!) and somehow found time to paddle around. phew!

we’ve got a pretty full house for the next couple of months! that being said, we did put the 14th room of the inn back on the website… if you were looking for availability on a weekend we previously did not have space, snag Bass Harbor now!

For over 100 years, the Newcastle Inn has been a soft place to land in Midcoast Maine. A place to slow down, sleep well, and wake up to the river. That continues.

We're Ashley and Kyle, your new innkeepers, and we are so excited to be here. We live right here in Newcastle, just down the road, and we've spent the last two years building Waterstruck Wellness - a Community Nordic Spa where people come to slow down, rest, and find Midcoast Maine at its best.

Liz and Carolyn brought their whole hearts to this inn over the last five years, and we are so grateful for the two months they've spent with us passing on everything they know. The waffles, the fluffiest scramble, the hospital corners. The small things that make a stay here feel less like a hotel and more like coming home to rest.

We are honored to be the next chapter of the Newcastle Inn. We have so much we're looking forward to sharing with you, and we can't wait to welcome you.

After nearly 5 years of bacon, bed flips and beautiful river sunrises, the time has come for the inn to embark on its next chapter.

About a month into our ownership, the local newspaper featured us as the new owners of the inn. Carolyn noted that, as innkeepers, you become part of the guests’ experience during their stay… and I don’t think at the time we even realized how true that was. Over the years we have welcomed guest for honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays, sat with guests as they came to visit loved ones in their final days, seen pictures of (adorable!) new grandbabies as grandparents came to visit them in their first days… and even witnessed an engagement on the Adirondack chairs on the lawn!

We’ve shared more laughter and hugs than we could have ever imagined (especially coming from our old corporate jobs). Though the inn will be in new hands, the memories will stay with us for a lifetime.

When we took over the inn in 2021, we had a 10-year plan to be owner/operators and evaluate each year thereafter if we were both up for continuing through the next season. Unfortunately, due to some developing health issues that could not be ignored, our plan was cut short. The decision to sell was incredibly difficult - when you find something you love doing and are fortunate enough to call it your ‘job’, it is truly a blessing.

But what has made our time here so incredibly special are you, the guests who we would greet at the door (sometimes even your cars!), to welcome you into our sanctuary, our home and our slice of Maine paradise. New faces, familiar faces who would arrive year after year, and some even month after month.

As we look forward, we are struck with excitement for the inn’s next chapter and are overjoyed that the new stewards of this wonderful inn are already part of the Twin Villages community.

It was a privilege to serve each and every one of you. With deep gratitude, thank you for being part of our story ❤️

Despite the dusting of snow last night, signs of spring are popping up (quite literally) all around the inn. Here in Midcoast, we know spring has really sprung with the reemergence of the oyster beds from their winter hibernation at the bottom of the river. Cheers to full blooms and the warmer days just around the corner 🥂 🌺 ☀️
