Diadema Golf Club

Diadema Golf Club Featuring 9-holes which also can be played as a full round of 18, this course showcases carefully constructed ponds and a few difficult obstacles.

On a cool summer’s morning, when the robins begin singing and the red squirrels and chipmunks start their day’s hunt for food, and the resident fox laps along the dog-leg of the 3rd Hole, the mowers come rumbling down the cart paths to prepare the course for another day. Although lacking the size of most courses, it certainly makes up for in beauty. It stretches 5,837 yards from the center to the

back tees, and was reviewed by the USGA, with a Course Rating of 68.9, and a slope of 127 from the back. Diadema Golf Club was designed by Golf Course Architect Michael Zikorus. Not only did he design the course, he also remained with the project and also led construction. A favorite for local towns, this “Hidden Gem” gets its name from the root word Diadem, the Greek word for a type of crown, or diadéō, meaning “to bind.” The crown, which was mostly a decorated headband worn by emperors and kings recorded since the 20th Century BC to the 1st Century AD during the Roman Empire. These headbands signified power and authority. But the original influence for Diadema Golf Club does not belong in ancient empires thousands of years ago. Instead, we searched through the history of the town of North Anson to find something closer to home. Across the road and in a pocket of the woods, only marked by a small sign stands an obscure cemetery dating back to the early 1800s. Before Route 16 had been rerouted, when the towns of Embden and North Anson were agricultural towns, the place served as a burial plot for the families of the area. The construction of the newly routed road saw it pushed aside, but several tombstones survived, including one named Diadema Williams, who died in 1851. Little is known about her, born to a family of ten, and that she died at the age of 15. We saw it fitting to include this as the influence of naming the course this way. Thousands of stories in rural Maine are either forgotten or buried in old books, like Diadema. Included with the course is a driving range, two practice greens for putting and chipping respectively. With a mindset to create a family-friendly course for beginners and professional golfers, while still providing a challenge for the more skilled players, Diadema Golf Club awaits your visit.
