Luckyduck Bicycle Cafe

Luckyduck Bicycle Cafe Luckyduck is a mixed-use bike shop and cafe that strives to unite the Bay through cycling, food, boo No pretension or pressure.

While focusing on self-actualized education, camaraderie, and general bicycle advocacy, our goal is to combine the services and goods found in a local bike shop with the positive and relaxed vibes found in a coffee shop or beer garden. Just genuine human connection in the name of increasing bicycle ridership throughout the bay.

“The only thing constant is change.” “You can never step in the same river twice.” “The world keeps on turning.”

Our lives are always changing, no matter what we do to keep them constant. All we can do is celebrate what we have while we have it, and accept what we lose when we lose it.

For our last shop ride of Luckyduck Bicycle Cafe, we’ll meet at the shop at 4:30pm, and roll out at 5ish—or a little after depending on who’s coming. Expect a casual spin up the hill, stopping for a sunset view in Joaquin Miller Park. And–since the world will have turned–we’ll grab a post-ride beverage at Eli’s Mile High Club. It will all be on the road (Besides the quick jaunt to the lookout point.)

Two out of five quacks for difficulty. Come usher out an end to an era with us.

As we wind down we are happy with all these lovely custom builds we can still churn out.

Here is Noah’s all black and purp PBP crusher. They spent a ton of time ruminating on the different shades of ano, and we hope it shows. Can’t wait to see the custom bag💐🦄👾🍇☂️☔️

⚠️Big announcement⚠️
Luckyduck will be shutting our doors for good at the end of this month. March 31st will be the last official normal day of our business, and we will keep things open as normal for as long as we can. There are a lot of reasons why it is happening, and we’re bummed but would rather focus on all the great stuff this place has given us. We are proud to have served Oakland and nurtured our community for as long as we could.

The people we’ve met (you know who you are); the coffees we’ve served; the bikes and bomb-ass food we’ve made; the rides and campouts; punk shows; bike talks and workshops have all been so so rewarding. We are forever grateful. Looking forward to the next big thing from whomever is willing, so do us proud. 🪂

With love and gratitude, Cap’n Ron and the Ducks

It’s been a few months since Noah commissioned this fun ripper Specialized Rockhopper and it’s nice to see how it’s been wearing and fairing.

We had it stripped and painted and re-decal’d so he could set it up as a drop bar trail shredder. Drop bars, 2x9 wide range gearing with brifters, sub-compact cranks, classic Homage tires and rim brakes.

So you survived an atmospheric river: Downed trees. Mud slides. Closed roads. Let's go check it out! On this week’s ride we'll take a tour of some post-storm mayhem on our way out to the new end of Redwood road (before the closure for huge new sink-hole). Weather permitting, we'll jump some low key, gravel bike ready trails on our loop. If it's too wet after Friday’s potential rain, we'll stick to the roads. Either way, bring a capable bike to handle the hills, dirt trails, and/or some mud filled roads and unplanned gravel washouts. Ian plans to ride his gravel bike.

Along the way, shop ride leader Ian “the Urban Forester” Kesterson may get way too excited to point out some failed trees, observe the flowering Acacia trees, and/or provide some commentary on the dynamic urban wildland interface of the Easy Bay Hills. You've been warned!

1. (Slide 2) Fun version with some dirt connectors. We'll know by Friday morning how much rain we got and can plan accordingly. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41899428. 4 out of 5 quacks for difficulty

2. (Slide 3) Road version (in case of a bunch of rain on Friday and very wet trails on Saturday). https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41899489 3-4 out of 5 quacks for difficulty . There are a couple early bail points to head back to HQ.

Meet in the cafe at 9am, depart by 9:30am. Hope to see you there!

Join us this Saturday for an exciting ride into the Oakland hills to examine some of the greatest works of the bay's own "Man of Steel" Bev D Thorne. Meet us in the cafe at 10am, and we’ll roll at 10:30. We'll take in five of the architects most notable houses including "Brubeck West" and the Baker Millennium house, built to last one thousand years.

As we're heading up into the hills, there will be some steep sections, so bring some low gears and good brakes. Shop ride leaders Doug “The Stig” Williams and Katie have sketched out a lovely four-quack route (for difficulty out of five quacks), available here:

Also if you're lucky we may have some real architects along to add some actual facts!

We’ve been hosting Wednesday shop rides for a while now, and will make it official. Join us for a weekly shop ride hosted by our venerable wrench

Every week we’ll meet and leave from the shop at 4:30pm. We usually head up to Joaquin Miller Park, but we’ll shred—route and difficulty depends on inspiration and participation. All levels are welcome. Bring a dirt-ready bike with big tires and strong brakes, and strong lights. Check our weekly stories for cancellations or modifications.

We have special hours this week! Hope everyone gets more time in the saddle during our hiatus.
