Brad's Bar-B-Que is the first place he brought her up 29 years ago, in June of 1997, and that sat in this very same booth. James and Bonnie Mullinax were married a year later in 1998, and Brad’s Bar-B-Que catered their wedding. James went to school with the Bradfords and began eating at Brad’s when it opened in Anniston in 1988. He is now enjoying his retirement from the Anniston Fire Department. We hope to see James and Bonnie back in their favorite booth, soon!!

We are so glad that these wonderful people enjoyed a great time of fellowship with us. Happy Birthday, again!!

One of the things I love about Brad's Bar-B-Que is meeting new people and finding out that you have a lot in common. Mike and Ben Williams are father and son race fans from London, United Kingdom. They traveled here for today’s NASCAR race at Talladega Superspeedway. It is their first time to visit Talladega Superspeedway, and their first time in the south. They loved our food at Brad’s.

My oldest son, Rich Laird, and I are also race fans and are going to today’s race as we have been doing for the past 31 years. Rich hasn’t missed a race since he met Bobby Labonte while on a field trip to Talladega Superspeedway when he was in the 2nd grade at The Donoho School in Anniston, Alabama.

This will be our first race since Kyle Busch passed away on May 21st of this year, so I want to share a story about Rich and Kyle. After Rich graduated high school from Faith Christian School in Anniston, he attended the NASCAR Technical Institute (now known as Universal Technical Institute) in Mooresville, North Carolina, known as “Race City USA.” While living up there, Whitney Turner Laird and I bought Rich a half scale stock car and put together a race team to race in the Arena Racing Series in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kyle Busch was driving for Hendrick Motorsports at the time and was also racing in the inaugural race of the Arena Series. He and Rich stood together and talked for a while before the race started. He was super nice and gave Rich a few pointers and advice before they got in their respective cars and began racing. Rich was leading the race when Chrissy Wallace spun Kyle, propelling Kyle’s car in front of Rich. Rich t-boned Kyle, which knocked Rich out of the race as it damaged his car too badly to continue. Kyle went on to win, but Rich still had the fastest lap of the race. That was a fun night. Thank you for the memories, Kyle Busch!!! May you Rest In Peace.

I hope my new friends from the United Kingdom have as much fun at Talladega Superspeedway today as Rich and I always do!!

This is one incredible family right here. Stacy Holmes and I have been friends for quite a while. He is the owner of Holmes II Excavation Inc. and an extremely successful businessman. His son, Bret Holmes, was the 2020 ARCA Menards Series Champion, the first season that the series was sanctioned by NASCAR. His daughter, Haley Holmes, is an actress and multitalented young lady that had me in stitches during their last visit to Brad's Bar-B-Que. I hope to catch her in the movie, How To Rob a Bank, which will be in theaters November 13th. I saw my first preview for the film earlier this week. It stars John C. Reilly of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby fame.

Welcome Race Fans!!! It’s race weekend at Talladega Superspeedway!!! As expected, Kirk Price made his semiannual trip to Brad's Bar-B-Que this past Wednesday and Shonda and I were at the door to greet him. Kirk is a NASCAR Technical Inspector/Official who makes Brad’s one of his first stops when he gets here for both race weekends each year. Kirk knows NASCAR AND great food!!! This group of NASCAR fans from Canada enjoyed some great food and fellowship at Brad’s yesterday. It’s the first time at Talladega for each one of them and the first time this far south for some of them. They all loved our food and are excited to be here, camping in the infield of Talladega Superspeedway!!! Come to Brad’s Bar-B-Que to get you some great food and Let’s Go Racing!!!

We have had some incredible times and made some wonderful memories over the past 59 years or so, and we aren’t finished!! Growing up in Roanoke, Alabama together, Jack Anglin and I are still the best of friends. Jack now lives in central Florida, but made a special trip to Brad's Bar-B-Que last Friday with his younger brother, Joey Anglin, who still lives in Roanoke. We shared a lot of great food, great stories, great fellowship and a lot of laughs!!! Since today is Thursday, in addition to the photos from last week’s visit, I am adding some throwback photos from our time at Handley High School, before my hair fell out and Jack’s turned gray. The first picture also includes our friends, Barry Bozeman and Laura Norton. The second one includes our friends, Mark Duffie and Clark Sheppard. The third one includes our friend Laura, along with our friend, Carol Diamond. Here’s to wonderful friends, wonderful memories and more wonderful times ahead!!!

We were happy to see these Alabama Power retirees enjoying spending their time together and having lunch at Brad's Bar-B-Que, again. This bunch loves getting together and talking and eating. I’m not sure how often they get together, but this is at least the second time this year that they have chosen to meet at Brad’s. They had a great time and we look forward to seeing them again, soon!!!

A day spent with a grandchild is the BEST kind of day!!! And, that is exactly what I found my longtime friend, Chip Howell, doing at Brad's Bar-B-Que last Friday. Chip was enjoying lunch with his grandson, Evan. Evan was enjoying it, too, as he gave Brad’s 5 stars!!! Chip served as Mayor of Anniston, Alabama from 2000-2008 and was inducted into the Calhoun County Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. I look forward to seeing him and Evan spending another 5 star day together at Brad’s, soon!!
