Today would have been Nanny’s 100th birthday.
When we began exploring the idea of sourcing matcha, we discovered that tea is grown in the same region where my grandmother spent part of her childhood.
There is something deeply meaningful about finding ourselves drawn back to her homeland and spending time in a place that was a big part of her story.
These clips come from an interview with my grandmother, Atsuko, reflecting on her childhood in Japan, Seattle, to her time at Minidoka Internment Camp.
Remembering her today, and grateful for the ways her story continues. A piece of Nanny is with you all every time you have a matcha or hojicha at Elixr :)
