Thank you pins for everyone who donated and messaged us over the weekend will be in the mail in the morning! We're knocked out by your support of Courtney's work to save and find homes for these vulnerable felines in Pittsburgh. To keep apprised of Marzoni's progress (and meet her other fosters), follow Steel City Adventure Cats on Instagram. Our deepest thanks for your generosity. 😽🙏❤️

The response to our mini fundraiser/pin giveaway has been great so far - thank you. I'm not surprised because people who support animal rescue are generally AWESOME!

Marzoni's treatment continues. He has a vet appointment on Monday to assess progress, and there will likely be an ultrasound and specialist visit prescribed.

We still have purrogi pins to give away! If you can, please make a donation to Steel City Adventure Cats to help offset the cost of getting this orange goofball well - see our previous post for details and links on how to donate and receive your gift. The offer is good until Sunday at 10pm (or until we run out).

THANK YOU

Hi all! It’s been a while :-). Please read on to see how you can do a good deed today and get rewarded with something adorable.

We’re posting today because Steel City Adventure Cats, a local, independent rescue, is raising funds to care for several foster felines, including Marzoni, pictured. This sweet ginger has FIP, a life-threatening virus, and Courtney, who runs SCAC, is making sure he’s getting the best chance at survival by working with a vet to administer an 84-day treatment. This includes the little guy getting a shot every day, which is super expensive.

You can help. To everyone who donates $20 or more to Steel City Adventure Cats, we’ll send a free purrogi pin. Just message me here on FB with a screenshot of your donation (through either Venmo or PayPal) and let me know your mailing address. Note: be sure to use messenger (not comments) to send your address so it stays private.

This offer is good for FB messages received by 10pm ET on Sunday, Nov 1, or until we run out of pins! Feel free to share this post.

THANK YOU

Animal Friends posted this sweet tribute that we've watched about 100 times. We love that so many past adopters submitted photos, thank you. It means a lot to see our Loft alumni looking so happy and loved. Even though Colony is closed, please continue to support Animal Friends' lifesaving work! What they do is essential. When you or someone you know is looking to adopt a cat, dog, or bunny, point them in the direction of the North Hills. Their medical, humane investigation, and adoption teams survive on charitable donations, so please consider becoming a member or making a one-time donation and help save some animals! ❤️🙏www.thinkingoutsidethecage.org

That's a wrap! The final group of Colony cats were picked up today. Here's Boo (formerly Ohio) held by Emily, who along with her mom Terry are Boo's new family. Fuzz, Fiddy, and Dallas also headed home today. Thanks to for paying the adoption fees for nine kitties, and to so many other generous folks who have sponsored cats in the past. We couldn't resist including a few pics of Rebel ♥️who we got to love for five months before she finally picked her humans last week! So happy for her pure, crazypants soul 😻

Hello friends. We are truly touched by the reactions to our closing announcement. Your kind words of encouragement, posted photos of adopted cats, and shared Colony memories have brought us joy -- thank you. We also received some very generous offers of financial help. These are wonderful, thoughtful proposals, but we have made our decision and we are ready to move on.

For now, back to cats 🐱🐱🐱 We would love to find the remaining Loft cats homes in the next couple of weeks so they don’t have to be returned to Animal Friends. And because they all deserve loving families of their own.

To learn about the Loft cats, head to our FB photo album or website (linked in the blue Learn More button above) and read info on each kitty. If you are serious about adopting, complete an online application here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/AFI/Cat
A safe meet-and-greet at the cafe will need to be scheduled prior to final approval.

❗️Important: many of the current Loft cats have come from hoarding situations and are very nervous. It will take a bit of leap of faith to bring one of these sweet souls into your home, because extra patience and time will be needed to help socialize these special cats.

🎉BONUS: Because many generous people have pre-paid adoption fees recently, all of our current kitties are free to adopt (and the amount left over will be donated to Animal Friends)! A very special thank you to Pittsburgh Good Deeds, who immediately covered the fees for nine cats when he learned we were closing 👏

After three years in business, having found homes for nearly 350 rescue cats, and serving countless cappuccinos, Colony Cafe is closing its doors for good later this month.

Like many small businesses, Colony Cafe operated on thin margins, and the state-mandated closure in March proved to be something from which we couldn’t financially recover.

As the first cat cafe in Pittsburgh, we set out to offer a relaxing gathering place for humans while finding adoptive families for homeless cats. We are proud to have achieved that, and equally humbled by the enthusiasm and support we’ve received from Pittsburghers along the way - beyond what we ever imagined. We are grateful to every Cat Loft guest, to those who have adopted, and to the big-hearted people who went out of their way to patronize Colony because they believed in our mission.

We are deeply thankful to Animal Friends, who recognized an opportunity to extend their life saving work by partnering with us to give adult and senior cats a second chance. Their ongoing commitment to companion animal welfare is critical to the communities in Western PA and beyond.

We are pleased and fortunate to have connected with Cafe Liminal, who will be taking over our space at 1125 Penn Ave this summer. In the coming days we’ll share more information about that, and we’ll be back in touch with news about our going-out-of-business sale, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 16.

Again, we thank everyone who championed our cause and contributed to our shared success.

With gratitude,
Sue & Erik Hendrickson

Our social media and website will remain active for the foreseeable future. Please stay in touch and we'll keep you posted on our next adventure!

Here's our 7th new resident, Ox. Too shy for a photo yesterday, this 6-year-old male was part of a humane investigation carried out by Animal Friends. Specifically, it was a hoarding situation. All the kitties that came in (in Dec 2019) were given names that started with "O". If you visited the Loft before we closed, you may have met Oja, who was in the same group and recently adopted. We're being very gentle with Ox, recognizing he'll need some time to get comfortable. While very fearful, he responds well to chin rubs, so we see glimmers of him just being a cat, and that's the goal. He'll get a LOT of love while he's in the Loft and we'll keep you posted on his progress.
