Back in the late 1800’s and into the early 1900’s, Pittsville was known as the “Strawberry Capitol” of the eastern shore. All the fields that you see from Berlin to Salisbury were growing fresh strawberries; not the corn fields and soy beans you see today. During peak season, Pittsville would ship upwards of 40 boxcars full of strawberries to the major ports on the Chesapeake and cities in the northeast. We chose boxcar40 to honor the heritage and traditions of Pittsville
