With summer making a brief appearance this week it is the perfect time to bring to you our new Summer Afternoon Tea Menu, and what a menu it is!
Our new Summer Afternoon Tea Menu starts on Monday 25th May, the perfect way to spend your Memorial Day and we cannot wait for you to sample this latest taste of England!
You will begin your experience with a glass of chilled Hibiscus iced Tea followed by crustless finger sandwiches with these amazing new fillings, first up is a blend of Red and White Grated Mature Cheddar Cheese blended with finely diced Spring Onion & Mayonnaise, this traditional English sandwich filling evolved from the traditional British "cheese savoury" or "cheese and onion" spreads. originally popularized in the UK as a Tea Sandwich or picnic staple, you will love it! Next is Ham with Hot Gooseberry Chutney, during the British Raj, (the period of direct rule by the British Crown over the Indian subcontinent, lasting from 1858 to 1947) the concept of spicy, preserved fruit mixtures were introduced to Europe. British colonists fell in love with Indian chutneys in particular and sought to adapt them using the traditional tart European gooseberries they were familiar with back home, this blend tastes supreme. Next for you is another NEW filling, Egg Mayonnaise blended with HP Sauce, amazing, HP is a true British staple, with its tangy & slightly sweet flavour from a blend of tomatoes, malt vinegar, dates & spices, you will love it. Finally Cucumber, you must have Cucumber in an Afternoon Tea sandwich selection this time with Honey Mustard! Mmmm
Then your desserts, first is the beautiful & colourful cake that is Battenburg, this multi coloured sponge cake wrapped in Marzipan tastes as good as it looks! The Battenburg Cake was originally created for Queen Victoria, to celebrate the marriage of her granddaughter to Louis (then Prince Louis of Battenberg) in 1884. Battenburg was reportedly also one of Queen Elizabeths favourite desserts and you can certainly understand why, next and a first for many of you is Banoffee Pie another traditional English dessert and a relatively modern one dating back to the great year of 1971, (the year I was born and Arsenal F.C. won the both the first division and the FA Cup) most of you will be unfamiliar with this dessert it is a succulent dessert beginning with a pastry shell base, followed by Banana then dolce de leche then English Double Cream all topped with chocolate shavings, essentially your new favourite dessert. Finally and some say leave the best until last, Trifle this quintessential English summer dessert dates back over 400 years evolving over time consisting of layers of madeira cake & summer fruits suspended in jelly, then rich vanilla custard, topped with English Double Cream and finished with hundreds & thousands, simply divine!
Then the Seasonal Scone to accompany this delightful menu is again a NEW and first for you…..Cherry & Dark Chocolate, perfect just perfect with lashings of Clotted Cream & Strawberry Preserve!
