UPDATE: Jesse & The Medicine Men have been moved to July 22.
This change is because Polk City Parks & Recreation partnered with the Des Moines Performing Arts and is hosting a free theatre show on the Square, and we don't want the music in the Pocket Park to interrupt the show.

Episode 7: Business Loan

The original owners of Fenders did a fantastic job running this business for so long, even making it through the pandemic. Weโ€™re grateful for the opportunity they gave us to be first time business owners and keep Fenders alive in Polk City.

We have a 5 year loan set up through the Iowa Center for Economic Sucess. We didnโ€™t get any investors and bought the business fully through the loan.

When all the banks looked as us, they saw news of breweries shutting down & we had no prior business ownership experience. The only way they wanted to work with us was by leveraging our assets (home, car), which we didnโ€™t want to do.

In the end the Iowa Center took a risk on us. It probably helped that I had experience working for breweries in various roles. Or that Nate and I set Fenders up as majority Women owned (me!) Or that Nate wasnโ€™t quitting his awesome day job. ๐Ÿคฃ Anyway, weโ€™re thankful for their support and Iโ€™m glad we continued to search for options outside of typical bank loans!

Whew! What a weekend!!! Thank you to everyone who stopped by the beer trailer, tried a brew, and supported us at the Four Seasons Festival!

A special shout-out to Polk City Park and Rec for running the festival this year and letting us local businesses run the beer garden. That was a huge win for our community!

After 21 hours at the festival + 6hrs kegging in preparation + 5hr volunteering with the Friends of the Parks.. we are exhausted and so grateful!

Make sure to give the City positive feedback so we can do it again next year!! ๐Ÿป

What a FUN Four Seasons Festival!! Shout out to Polk City for allowing the businesses to run the beer garden this year instead of brining in an outside vendor. Such a huge win! Thank you everyone who stopped by, supported us and may have tried something new! The amount of kegs we went through was impressive!! ๐Ÿป
