turns out the cake was never my favorite part, it was this.

someone trusting me with an idea that only existed in their head.

days of screenshots. “wait actually…” messages. changing colors. changing decorations. getting excited over tiny details that nobody else would even notice.

and then watching it become real.

that’s what i loved.

that’s also why i couldn’t keep doing it full time.

because this level of care takes time and mental capacity. the kind that’s really hard to give twenty people at once.

so now, every once in a while, i get to say yes to something and give it my all.

like an ice cream cake i’d never even made before.

literally drove it over at 10:30pm after i finished it because neither of us actually wanted to do a 6am pickup and that’s real life.

turns out that’s the part i miss the most.

some people pass down jewelry to their kids, i passed down a stolen stop sign to mine 👀🛑😇

in what feels like another life this stop sign was covered in silly signatures hanging in teenage kort’s bedroom (don’t ask how i got it) but after i thought i outgrew it and told my mom to throw it away, she stashed it in storage for years. until one day her and my son went to storage and he spotted it still shining through the years of dust packed on and immediately he had to have it!!

a few bottles of nail polish remover and some major elbow grease later to make it somewhat appropriate for my child lol it’s now both of our favorite pieces of decor in his room❤️‍🔥
