High Gravity Brewing... What does that mean? In making beer, the wort (after extracting sugar from the grain, adding hops and other adjuncts = wort that is boiled) you get an initial specific gravity. After fermentation you get a final specific gravity. The difference between the 2 values determines the alcohol by volume. For example, in brewing Peats Portly Porter, the target Initial gravity was

1.115, the actual was 1.095, the final gravity (after fermentation) was 1.020 giving a Measured ABV of 10%. This is due to the massive (in 10 Gallons) of grain 41 #. Giving a Rich Malt Flavor with a great "mouth feel" with a "nice" hop flavor, not too overpowering, well balanced overall flavor. We make (to start) 7 beers, each with the taste tested thumbs up. All of our beers are aged for at least 4 weeks. The Pilsner has 4 weeks plus 4 additional weeks for lager-ing. the aging gives the beer a chance to be well balanced. Hop utilization in a high gravity beer is much lower than with a lower gravity beer. As such, the hopping schedule is adjusted making the IBU (International Bitterness Units) as effective as possible.

I finally brewed on the 1BBL system. The OG was 1.095 and I don't have a final gravity but I'm expecting 10% ABV. The brew was a Mango Coconut Porter. I used Amoretti products and added the mixture 3/4 of the way through the fermentation. We shall see how it turns out. As a result of this brew session, I now have a 65 gal Mash Tun as the 1 BBL mash tun was chalk a block full and it took a bit temperature wise to get the mash right (not to mention a mess). The new mash tun should fix the problem. I also now have a 1BBL Brite Tank (for carbonating the beer) along with a 4 station counter pressure system for bottling.

A 20'X20'X16' allied steel building is on the way. Hopefully, this will be the home of High Gravity Brewing and will contain the 1BBL system. I plan to use this building to get the Federal and OLCC permits.

Finally, a bit of good news, Wells Fargo supports startup businesses. I know, I was surprised too. None the less the loan is huge, $ 1,212,541, which they would require 20% down or $242,508.20. I can put in $65,000 which leaves $177,508.20. With 5 investors that gives $35,502 each. with 10 investors it would be $17,751 each. Again, Please note that a 10% ROI (Return On Investment) will be distributed to each investor in ratio and proportion to the amount invested when we are profitable as measured by Retained Earnings which is projected for the 4th quarter of year 5. I tried, once again, to get funding from Umpqua bank. They made it clear this time around that they do not do start-up funding. Sigh. So now it is time to try other banks here in Portland OR. Unless you all have any suggestions?

Ok, here goes... On the web site, click on "The Shopping Cart Link". This will take you to the shopping cart. Select one or more of the items listed (more is always better!) If you click on the "icon" You can see How many items are available (if you care). From here you can "Add to Cart" Or you can just click on "Add to Cart" directly.

At any tine you cam click on "View Cart" (Top Right) to view the contents of the cart. For example, to Invest $25 click on "Add to cart" .
Then click on "View Cart". If you want to add more items, click on "Categories" or "Shop Home" and continue adding items.

When you are done, Click on "View Cart", For Shipping Destination, use the drop down menu to select "Federal Tax (IRS)" Them Click on the oblong button (Bottom Right) and the PayPal system takes over to complete the order.

On the web site clicking on the "The Shopping Cart Link" will take you to the Shopping cart. There you will find all the available investment options and levels. If you select one It will take you to to the check out. I am trying to remove the "Shipping Destination:", but for the moment, select "Federal Tax (IRS)" and then click on the "Checkout with PayPal" button. I am actively working on this to make it easier to use. So Please bear with me.

Bad news from Umpqua Bank:

Unfortunately Umpqua Bank does not offer startup SBA loans. I forwarded the email I received from our Umpqua Bank’s SBA lender. He has a website for start ups that has loan programs directly from the State of Oregon to assist in start-up financing.

I wish you the best of luck and please let us know how we can assist you further in the future.

Once again, If you have not already been in business for 2 years or more, it would seem you are SOL.

So I keep trying and will attempt to ring the web site indicated.

The Business Plan has been sent to Umpqua Bank! Yeah! So it is officially started. They will review it and get back to me. So the $600,000 in investment is really needed. Use is Cahs Flow, Deal is 10% ROI on profits. You can own a part of High Gravity Brewing!

I am trying to raise $600,000 for cash flow. I would like a minimum of $25.00 and up. As an incentive I am offering a 10% ROI. Until I get the bank to accept Debit and Credit Cards. Please make checks payable to: High Gravity Brewing LLC and mail them to 710 SW Viewmont Drive CO High Gravity Brewing, Portland, OR, 97225. I will send back the member sale agreement. We should be profitable at the end of the second year. Let us know about any change of address. Also please include your name and address where payments (the 10%) will be mailed.
For example, for every $1000 in profit we pay out $100 distributed according to the amount invested. More investment more pay.
At $25 it takes 25,000 people.
At $50 it takes 12,000 people.
At $100 it takes 6,000 people.
At $500 it tales 1,200 people.
