Crispy chicken, sweet Thai chili sauce, Imperial Dragon aioli, daikon carrot slaw, fresh cilantro, and jalapeños.

🥔 Jojos Bravas
Our famous jojos tossed in a sweet, smoky, spicy seasoning and served with black garlic aioli for dipping.

Originally created by a former staff member for Barley Mill's birthday (if you've been to Barley Mill Pub, you know what we're talking about), this sculpture somehow found its way home and now hangs proudly above our pool tables. We like to think it was always meant to end up here.

Tavern & Pool hasn’t always been Tavern & Pool… 👀

Back in the 70s, when ownership changed, it picked up a very different name: The Hangman’s Tree. 🌲

It drew a tougher, heavier-drinking crowd, and yeah… things could get a little wild in those days.

That history still lingers in subtle ways. Like the panoramic frontier mural from that era that still hangs in the pool room today that was thought to "toughen the décor." A quiet reminder that every place has a past… even while you're just here lining up your next shot. 🎱

“What’s Slabtown?” is one of the questions we hear the most 👀✨

The neighborhood got its name from the lumber mill that operated on NW Northrup in the 1870s. The mill produced leftover edges of logs called “slabwood,” which were delivered to working-class homes throughout the area for heating and cooking.

People stacked the slabwood outside their homes, giving the neighborhood a look that stood out from the rest of Portland. So, the nickname stuck.
