Family Feast

Family Feast Family style meals celebrating the people and food that inspire us Please come dine with us!

Thomas Pisha-Duffly started Family Feast as an outlet for his interest in the cooking traditions of his Chinese/Indonesian heritage. As a professional cook formerly in Boston and most recently Hugo's Restaurant in Portland, Maine, Thomas uses memory, oral histories, as well as recipes passed down three generations to inspire his cooking. Family Feast is a way to share the fruits of this labor with

family and friends in a traditional family style setting, letting guests enjoy the abundance of good food, good drink and good company without the constraint, and cost, of a formal table service.

Well!! Once again Knack Factory slays it and lays down proof that Boston Chinatown Run 2014 happened, and was AWESOME! Cant wait for the (hopefully heavily edited) video!!

We recently filmed a video with Thomas and Mariah Pisha-Duffly. In it, they gave us a tour of Boston's Chinatown, where they have personal, professional and family history. We were fortunate to be joined by Jay Loring of Nosh and Slab, John R. Myers of Eventide, and Mike Wiley, who is chef/owner of/at Eventide and Hugo's.

The video will be out in the next couple of weeks, but here we offer some photographic documentation of the endeavor. We began at Gourmet Dumpling House where we met with Jason Doo, who is in the process of opening his own restaurant. We then went to Penang, where we ate with Tom's mother and grandmother, and then we finished the evening under the service of Debbie, "the Multitasking Badass Behind Peach Farm." In between, we stopped to re-hydrate at Drink and Lucky's Lounge.

We can not thank the folks at Knack Factory enough for putting together this piece on our latest Family Feast! We feel so luck to have such high caliber professionals in our corner. Without the generosity of all our volunteers Family Feast wouldn't exist. Thank you!

Last week we attended Family Feast at The Well. The venue is literally a farm-to-table restaurant located right on Jordan’s Farm. It is run by Chef Jason Williams, who co-hosted the event. In conversation, Thomas and Mariah Pisha-Duffly were both extraordinarily complimentary and appreciative of Williams and his supporting staff.

Per usual, the event was substantial in all ways. The conversations were stimulating, the company was grande, and the food was substantial and unforgettable. Also per usual, Eventide Oyster Co. Bar Manager John R. Myers was on premisses crafting specialty cocktail pairings throughout the meal. Tandem Coffee Roasters Pastry Chef Briana Holt baked strawberry buckle for dessert.

We talked with Tom and Mariah, some of those present, and Arlin Smith, a Family Feast booster (and Tom’s former employer) about the event itself, the pros and cons of undercharging, and how lucky Tom is to have Mariah in his life.

You can read that conversation here:
