Raised above his family’s Chicago bakery, Andrea Spella began drinking espresso when he was old enough to raise a cup to his lips. For quality and consistency, this Portland, Oregon roaster develops deep relationships with coffee growers and roasts the beans himself, always aiming for the “sweet spot.” Somewhere between a light and dark roast, his beans boast a balance of sweet and bitter with a d

ark chocolate flavor and caramel finish. Coffee is what you put into it. For Spella, it’s heart and soul.

Tanzania Peaberry Masangula is LIVE! Available today in our online shop and will be featured this next week as drip in the caffè. Retail beans will also be available downtown in the shop.

From the volcanic highlands in the Songwe region of southern Tanzania— primarily known internationally for its high-altitude specialty coffee production. Small villages like Masangula are helping shape its future—producing coffees that speaks with extraordinary clarity, sweetness, and character. But what makes this coffee truly memorable isn’t only the landscape. It’s the people who steward it.

This roast sings as a pour over, but would be fantastic with any brew method. It boasts of notes of blackberry compote with a perfect kiss of white pepper. We also love it as a coldbrew!

It’s a long-standing crew favorite year after year, and we can’t wait to hear what you think of it! You can also read more about it in our newsletter released today. Squisito!

is so proud to serve - our sister company- at the shop! We always have at least 3 flavors to enjoy as a solo scoop or as an affogato with espresso poured over the top here at the flagship. If you venture over to the scoop shop on NE 42nd and Alberta, they’ve got more than a dozen fabulous flavors, 1/2 pints to go, Spella espresso gelato and affogatos, sundaes, toppings, and delicious Mexican food available on the patio!! Definitely worth the trip this summer! 🫶🏼

Time to shake things up this summer… and we’re not just talking shakeratos.✨🫶🏼

Caffè Hours are being streamlined to open and close at the same time each day (closed Sunday)!

☕️Monday-Saturday 7:30am to 4pm!☕️
☕️We are closed Saturday the 4th of July to spend some time with our loved ones!🫶🏼

We are also thrilled to announce that we’ve got more of the diner mugs you all love and brand new espresso brown Spella t-shirts! Our crew loves the way they turned out and we can’t wait for you to see them.

This morning at 8am, our wonderful partners at Market of Choice opened their 13th store (5th in Portland area), and we are thrilled to have Spella beans on the shelves there for our westside friends!

Market of choice is a local family-owned business that is full of friendly faces and many fantastic local products. You can feel the commitment to community and connection with neighbors. Hope you can stop in and check it out!

Rossalina Espresso will be joining us at the caffè next week {possibly as soon as this evening}!!!✨

This roast is named after our gorgeous Italian Red Roaster- “Rosie” for short). We can’t wait to hear your tasting notes when you try it because she’s beautifully nuanced and velvety smooth on the lever machine.

For those who’ve loved this coffee for many years, now’s your chance to taste it again on the bar!!! We will also have retail bags available! ☕️

We can’t wait to celebrate our beautiful Reliable Rosie, and her glorious namesake roast this week!
