These are difficult, tense, sad, and very hard times for many people.
The times are not the best, but it is encouraging to see how the community is organizing on its own initiative to stand up against tyranny, abuse of power, racism, and intimidation.
Still, the most common questions we are all trying to answer are: What can we do? How can we help?
In this regard, organizations or groups like .ice.for.me have more detailed information and guidance.
I’m writing this post simply to invite you to support Latino-owned businesses, which in many ways sustain and support the Latino community.
– great food, and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays kids under 12 eat free.
– The suadero taco is amazing.
– with locations in Portland and South Portland, they have excellent enchiladas.
– the place that brings empanada parties to life.
– incredible arepas made with native and local corn.
– a very diverse menu and my father-in-law’s favorite.
– always a great place to eat empanadas and drink lulo juice.
– a nice surprise to find at different events around the city.
– a good place to eat pupusas.
From my small bubble, these are the places I visit most and can speak about firsthand.
I believe that one of the best ways to help right now, if you’re not sure how, to support these businesses and show them that they are not standing alone.
The Latino community is not alone, and it is growing.
