It has officially begun… the Cruiser Sports Wall! 🧡🖤
Just in time for tonight’s Sports Banquet that we are hosting and that the Lion’s Club does every year for the kids.
Originally, we had planned to use our big empty wall for a giant 3D world map so visitors to our little corner of the world could place a pin where they’re from. So far, the furthest pins are Germany and Poland!
But during a business meeting and dinner at Gino’s Pizza Inn with our friends Kim and Steve — the new owners — we found ourselves looking around at all the sports memorabilia on their walls. Jerseys, memories, pride. And somewhere between pizza and conversation, we realized…
Powers needs a wall like that too.
Because sports here are different.
In bigger schools, athletes usually pick one sport. Maybe two. Here? Our kids play everything. Football, basketball, volleyball, softball, track… sometimes all at once. With such a small student body, almost every student wears multiple jerseys throughout the year. And they do it with heart.
Last year, one of our sophomore girls pitched most of a softball game, then immediately headed to a track meet where she threw javelin and took 1st place.
Our boys won the State Championship in football on Saturday, celebrated Sunday, started basketball practice Monday, and played their first game Wednesday.
And this year, our girls basketball team made it to State for the first time in 30 years. They may not have brought home the trophy, but they brought home 1st place in Sportsmanship — and honestly, that says everything about this town.
The stands were packed with a sea of orange and black. Families, alumni, kids, grandparents, neighbors… all cheering like crazy for our girls.
Cruiser Pride is a real thing.
You can feel it here.
And somehow, even though I wasn’t born here, I feel it too.
So now, the wall has officially started. A wall for the memories, the athletes, the community, and the pride that makes this tiny town so special. 🧡🖤
