A send-off for our graduates 🤍
For Greyson, Dylan and Kathryn 🎓 we wanted to give something more meaningful than a graduation gift. Something handmade, lasting, and full of intention.
These leis were made by island boy, an artist and former risd professor now living in hawai’i. Each one is a small piece of art 🐚 shells, natural materials, texture, and time.
A lei is more than something beautiful to wear. It’s a symbol of love, honor, farewell, and protection. A way to mark a threshold and send someone into their next chapter carrying the warmth of the place they’re leaving.
Greyson, Dylan, and Kathryn have all been part of the ceremony team — part of the everyday rhythm of our space and our creative world. Watching them grow here made this place what it is. Reminds us why this place matters beyond what we serve 🫶 Ceremony becomes woven into people’s college years, their milestones, and their memories.
To each of you: thank you for the energy, care, warmth, and meaning you brought into our space.
We are so proud of you. We will miss you. And like these leis — made to last far beyond one day — your presence here will stay with us.
Congratulations Greyson, Dylan and Kathryn. Come back and visit us often. 🤍

Introducing the Mont Blanc 🍊🍊
Cold Brew with house-made orange syrup, topped with a rich orange cold foam and finished with fresh microplaned orange zest. Creamy, refreshing, think chocolatey and orange but make it a drink, make it summer,

Available at both locations.

Take a break, touch some grass. You didn’t come this far to not treat yourself. Happy Wednesday 🫶🍡🍵

This week, two completely different conversations somehow steeped into the same thought.

One happened over tea with Yo-Yo Ma.
The other happened over lunch with a friend who was tired of watching her work get copied.

Somewhere between the two I found myself thinking about originality, imitation and what it means to make something that has passed through you first.

Yo-Yo Ma, strawberry matcha, creative exhaustion, copycats, upside-down triangle.

Now on substack. 🤍

Yesterday afternoon, we had the incredible honor of welcoming Yo-Yo Ma and his family to Ceremony for an intimate tea ceremony before giving a talk to the students at Brown.

When my family immigrated here, finding small pieces of home meant everything. Before smartphones, Zoom, and the convenience of texting, long-distance calls and handwritten letters were the only ways to stay connected to family back in China. Any piece of familiarity: language, food, tea, music, all felt like holding onto a familiar piece from home.

I first heard Yo-Yo Ma’s name when I was 13. For many immigrant families, he represented something beyond music: Chinese heritage carried into the world with grace, discipline, and generosity.

To welcome him and Jill into our space, to share tea and thoughtful conversation, was deeply moving and inspiring.

The space we built at Ceremony has always been more than coffee and tea to me. It is presence, tradition, and a bridge between where we come from and where we are now, much like the way art connects people across cultures, generations, and worlds.

Thank you to the Brown Chinese Summit group for bringing this beautiful moment to life, and to Yo-Yo Ma and his family for their warmth and kindness.

Some moments remind you how far you’ve come, and how much of home you’ve carried with you all along. 🤍
