It is with many emotions that we announce the closing of Garland in its current location.  14 W. Martin Street has housed Garland since its inception in 2013, and Kings and Neptunes since 2010.  Operating on Martin Street for more than a decade and being an important part of Downtown Raleigh has brought us more joy and fulfillment than we could have dreamed.  We have evolved over this time and feel so proud of becoming a part of this community. .
Operating through the pandemic over the last 2 years, has shown us the potential of this amazing space and we look forward to ushering in its reinvention.  

The last date of regular service at Garland will be Saturday, August 27, 2022. 

In the short term, please stay tuned for updates on pop-up dinners, shows and other events at Martin Street in the near future.

Our priority has always been to take care of our incredible staff, the many local purveyors, and our guests who we have had the pleasure of welcoming into our spaces.  We will continue to be dedicated to our local foodways, a healthier food and beverage industry, the arts, and our community in our next incarnation(s). Thank you for supporting us, and we look forward to our next chapter.  We will share details soon!

Unmasking our management team today, Lindsay and Gaëlle!

You’ll recognize Lindsay from all of our cocktail videos: she is the mastermind behind our signature cocktails (wildly creative - a summer squash & bergamot cocktail anyone?) and our eclectic wine list! Originally from Connecticut, she moved down here for college and found her place behind the bar at the end of her degree. She comes up with her best ideas while lying on the floor of the restaurant and can always be cheered up with some beef jerky. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her fish Harvey, looking after her 50+ plants, and going camping with her partner Gregory. Ask her about vermouth: she has a lot of favorites, and has even started making her own- they’re super delicious and interesting!

Gaëlle joined our team as our FOH manager this past March. Originally from France, she spent many years globetrotting- with significant time in London and New Zealand. Fortunately, she chose to make a home in Raleigh with her husband Creigh (a fellow hospitalitarian) a couple of years ago. Gaëlle has brought many exciting new perspectives to Garland and is constantly working to improve our services and systems. She is always asking ‘how can we be doing better for our guests and for our team?’ and pushes us forward all the time. We count ourselves extremely lucky to have her as a leader! When she’s not hard at work, you can find her sipping on a daiquiri, taking photos of her cat Daiquiri, or finishing a pint (or two) of .

Their synergistic energy has been infectious and we are so grateful to work with them everyday.

Instagram, meet Alex and Sam!

Alex started with us as a host, but these days she’s most often serving. She has the sharpest sense of humor out of any of us, and constantly regals us with the wittiest (slash weirdest) observations. She’s always cool and collected during service, and will jump in to help anyone. Garland is just her side gig - she’s currently in nursing school with a year left to go! When she’s not working or studying, you can find her tending to her many plants, or trying to keep her puppy and three kitties under control with help from her partner, Phil.

A native North Carolinian, Sam came to us after a long stint in New York, where she worked in the fashion industry. Sam’s an accomplished sewist, with a talent for putting together the coolest outfits. At Garland, she’s a focused and engaging server, and recently finished training to work behind the bar too - she’s an exceptionally fast learner and is now rocking our volume bar like a pro! Her free time is filled with crafts, Sims games and gluten free snacks.

We’re very lucky to have them both on the team. Say hi when you’re next in!

Cut the Crop | gin, summer squash purée, bergamot, celery shrub, lime

Our new summer cocktail was born out of our Beverage Manager Lindsay’s determination/obsession with making a summer squash cocktail. She decided to go the sustainable route, and saved all the discarded squash tops leftover from kitchen prep, and turned them into this bright green juice!

We marry it with gin, bergamot liqueur and a touch of celery shrub - and kick it up a notch with a black and pink peppercorn rim. Try it next time you come see us!
