Few symbols are recognized around the world as quickly as the Stars and Stripes.

For nearly 250 years, the American flag has flown over battlefields, schools, small towns, mountain communities, and countless moments in our nation's history. Each star represents a state. Each stripe reminds us of the original thirteen colonies that took a chance on an idea called freedom.

Through challenges and triumphs, the Stars and Stripes have remained a symbol of hope, perseverance, and unity.

Here in Red River, we're proud to celebrate the people, places, and stories that helped shape America.

As we continue our journey toward America's 250th birthday, take a moment to look up at the flag and remember the generations who helped build the country we call home.

Just days after Richard Henry Lee introduced a resolution calling for independence, delegates of the Continental Congress gathered to discuss a question that would change history forever:

Should the colonies separate from Great Britain? The answer was not yet certain, but the conversation had begun.

Less than a month later, those discussions would lead to the Declaration of Independence and the birth of a new nation.

As we continue our Road to 250 Years of America, we remember that some of history's most important moments started with courageous ideas, thoughtful debate, and a vision for a better future.

Before July 4th became America's birthday, there was June 7th.

On June 7, 1776, Richard Henry Lee stood before the Continental Congress and introduced a resolution declaring that the American colonies "are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States."

That bold step set the wheels in motion for the Declaration of Independence less than a month later.

As we approach the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States in 2026, it's worth remembering the moments, decisions, and people who helped shape our nation's story.

Here in Red River, we're grateful for the freedom to gather with family, support local businesses, explore our beautiful mountains, and celebrate the communities we call home.
