July board of directors meeting will be at Center of the Universe Brewing tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 19, at 7 pm. Come out and see the new (to some) expansion and buy a pint to support the host of the 24th annual JRHB Dominion Cup Homebrew Competition. All club members are welcome, but only board members can vote. Your chance to become a board member is fast approaching!

The end is here for the 7Hills wort share. I have the following people and bucket counts. The signout sheet wasn't perfect, so the honor system is in play. If you wrong, let me know. If you haven't paid, please message me to arrange payment. Failure to pay will result in years of infected batches.

Drop off is at 7 Hills Seafood & Brewing Co. Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (7/7-9) BEFORE THE DINNER RUSH!! If you show up during the rush, more infections. Entries WILL NOT be stored in the cooler (not necessarily anyway). The whole field of entries will be chilled sunday night or monday prior to the judging.

The BJCP guidlelines aren't going to be the rule. Think more BOS. When you enter your beers, just say what they are. This is about brewing a great beer, not necessarily a perfect example of BJCP style.

Judging will be Monday July 10th at 7Hills. Those interested in judging who aren't competing, please PM me.
Finally, If you aren't entering because you drank all of your batch, or it didn't turn out, please let me know. We do have a field of pro's that will be judging, but if there is a great turnout of entries, we might need some help.

This is my pet project and the first of many charitable contests (hopefully) where JRHB is giving back to the community.

Homebrewers, I have another one for you!

Final Gravity will be hosting the Big Brew. (watch for a post from them)

Tony has offered up a limited competition to introduce a new maltster now available at Original Gravity Homebrew Supplies.

For more info on the maltster visit http://theswaen.com/

The contest is currently limited to 10 contestants.

There are 3 on the list so far.

You will receive 10 pounds of base malt, pils or pale.

You can add from the list below to make it your own.

Light Caramel L-4.3
Belge Caramel L-12
Red Caramel L-15
Biscuit Malt L-27
Melany Malt L-30
Classic Malt L-40
Brown Malt L-75
Brown Supreme L-105
Aroma Malt L-130
Coffee Malt L-190
and coming soon
Roasted Barley and Chocolate Malt

No wood aged, no brett, no sours. Keep in mind any special processes may not be realistic in the big brew house. If its a pain in your home brewery, that pain scales up with the rest of the recipe.

Send me (Chad Ritter) a PM to get on the list.

More details to come.

Cheers!

President

Oh, I forgot again. Winner will brew with Tony and become an immediate big deal.

Homebrewers listen up!

7 Hills Seafood & Brewing Co. is putting on a wort share for JRHB members. The requirements are as follows:

Dues paid to the club. ($20)
$10 donation for the bucket and wort. (cheapest brew day ever)
Be able to pick up wort on May 13th at the brewery.

Pretty simple.

Aaron has formulated the following recipe:

Golden Promise 93.4%
Carafoam 3.6%
Acidulated Malt 2.9%
Brewers proprietary secret ingredient (probably beard hair) 0.1%

Stats:
1.048-1.050 OG
5 SRM
4.9% ABV
5.3 pH

Rules? Very few.
Although special processes may be possible, keep it real.

Aaron can kettle sour, can do fruit.

Don't use a crazy hop that isn't available in brewery quantity, for example the Australian group like Nelson Sauvin, Moteuka, or Galaxy.

Judging will be conducted by Aaron and his team of pro brewers and special judges. Entry deadline will likely be 6/28.

Send a pm to me, Chad Ritter, to get on the list. Limited to 40 entries.

More to come!

Cheers!

El Presidente

Chad Ritter

Oh, I almost forgot. Winner will get to brew with 7 Hills and have their beer served in the tap room. Late September early/October release.

Howdy JRHB! This year's holiday gathering is a little different than years past. We will keep with the tradition of brewing the competition coordinators choice/rules. This year, Angela wants to keep it simple and allow for more participation from newer brewers.
The cluster brew competition is 'extract/partial mash'. No all grain entries. The date is 1/21 at Sir Lloyd O'Hara's house. More details to come. Get to brewing. People's choice winner will earn a spot on the mash paddle.
