This is Alicia, our Mom, in a moment captured on our grand opening day.
Many of you know her or may recognize her. In the early years, she was often present inside the truck, providing lessons from decades of experience in restaurant kitchens, and a lifetime of wisdom in traditional Filipino cooking.
For those who aren't familiar with her, you would know her as the name behind our lumpia. She taught us the recipe, technique, and precision that goes into hand crafting each roll.
She passed away earlier this year, after a 10 year battle with cancer.
In observance of Undás, we Filipinos honor those who came before us, both in remembrance and in celebration of life. It is rooted in precolonial ancestral traditions and later intertwined with Catholic faith - All Saints Day and All Souls Day (Nov 1 and Nov 2). There's significance in the relationship between the living and the dead.
Mom was the heart of our family and there is a noticeable emptiness without her. But we carry her memory on with us and are guided by the values she instilled in us. Today, we light a candle for her.
We love you, Mom. 💕
