49 years of stories. 💛
As our anniversary week continues, one thing has become abundantly clear: The To***co Company has always been about so much more than food and drinks. It’s about the people.
Over the past few days our hearts have been warmed by the incredible stories you’ve shared about our restaurant: meeting spouses here, making lifelong friends, celebrating milestones, and creating memories that have lasted decades.
These two photos were sent to us by members of our To***co Co family:
✨Photo 1: Geri Phillips, one of our original bartenders in 1977, during our opening year. Today, she’s the owner of her own restaurant, Tavern 125 in North Carolina!
✨Photo 2: Susan Huband Poates, who worked as a Cigarette Girl in To***co’s early days. (Yes… smoking was once allowed inside, and we had staff who walked through the restaurant selling ci******es!). Susan says she still looks back on her time at The To***co Company as some of her best days.

Tonight 7/14, as well as tomorrow 7/15 and Thursday 7/16, we have a live harp player🪉from 5:30pm-8:30pm on the first floor. Reservations are still available upstairs for dinner after 7:00pm throughout the week. We hope you’ll join us to celebrate!

One week from today… we’re turning back the clock🪩
To close out our 49th Anniversary Week, we’ll be bringing the dance floor back to the 70s & 80s with a night of the songs that filled To***co Company during those unforgettable years (second slide is an actual photo from the Club in the 80s!). Whether you danced here back then or just wish you had, this one’s for you!

Throwback Thursday!🪉 Back in the day, the sound of a live harp filled our atrium every evening as guests gathered for happy hour. This (staged) photo captures one of those timeless scenes that many Richmonders still remember.
To celebrate our 49th anniversary next week, we’re bringing that tradition back! Join us Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:30pm-8:30pm as live harpist Renee Rippe performs in the atrium just like old times. 🎶 Whether you’re sitting on the first floor for happy hour or dining upstairs, you’ll be able to experience the music as it drifts through the restaurant once again ❤️

As we celebrate 49 years of The To***co Company Restaurant next week, we’re taking a look back at the transformation of our beloved building at 1201 E Cary Street ❤️
📍Photo 1: Right before The To***co Company Restaurant was established, our building served as a wholesale supply warehouse, filled with cleaning supplies and paper goods from 1962-1970. After that, the building remained vacant for the majority of the 70s. This photo was taken sometime in the early 70s.
📍Photo 2: The same view taken in November 1977, just a few months after we opened our doors as The To***co Company Restaurant.
📍Photo 3: Another angle of the building from the early 1970s, looking down 12th Street before the building’s transformation into a restaurant.
📍Photo 4: That same view in 1977. Look closely and you’ll spot the entrance to the future To***co Company Club just beginning to be built. The Club would officially open 2 years later, in 1979. You can also see Matt’s Pub, an English-style pub and comedy venue that was once part of the property.

Nearly five decades later, we’re honored to still be welcoming guests through these same doors! We are OPEN this weekend for 4th of July! Come see our amazing bands on the 1st floor of the restaurant. Friday, 7/3 we have Dance Candy from 9:00pm-12:30am, and Saturday, 7/4 we have MoDeBree from 9:00pm-12:30am.
