Dear Rock Springs Community,

This morning, our Sumo Guy was temporarily patched up by our manager after coming in early. The damage left many sharp splinters and exposed carbon fiber, making it unsafe to climb on.

Our biggest concern isn’t the repair
it’s the safety of our children. Even with the sign in place, we know the Sumo Guy is exciting, and kids naturally want to climb on him.

We kindly ask all parents to please remind your children that the Sumo Guy is for photos and memories, not for climbing. We want every family to leave Sapporo with smiles, not injuries.

More than anything, we hope this brings our community together. We’re not looking for money, and we don’t want anyone to have to spend their hard-earned savings because of an accident or damage. This post is not to shame or embarrass anybody
We simply want to keep the Sumo Guy standing strong so everyone can continue enjoying him for years to come.

Thank you, Rock Springs, for your kindness, your support, and for helping us keep our community safe. We truly appreciate every one of you
