Over the past few weeks we've watched Pizza Maya become exactly the place we hoped it would. Families coming together after work. Dropins for midday kickoffs and hangouts for happy hour specials. Complete strangers celebrating together because someone, somewhere, just scored an unforgettable goal.

Dear Friends, Neighbors, Pizza Fans, and Fellow Soccer Lovers —

One of our favorite things about the World Cup is that now that we’re in the knockout rounds, the field keeps shrinking and every round is more dramatic than the last.

By Thursday evening, half the remaining sides in the tournament will be heading home. Dreams will have been made or crushed. Heroes will have emerged, legends will have been made anew. Moments of history will be etched into national consciousnesses around the world.

That’s why we love gathering for these matches. Because it’s not just about the game. It’s about sharing moments you’ll remember.

One of the best things we’ve been told since opening is that people have told us they’ve stayed longer than planned because they’ve struck up a conversation with a stranger, or shared a moment of joy or despair with a newfound friend.

Those moments are exactly what we hoped Pizza Maya would become a vessel for. A neighborhood gathering place where the food brings people in, but the community keeps them there.

Just a note to share that we will be closed on Saturday, July 4 so that our amazing team can celebrate Independence Day with their family and friends.

The group stage is over. The knockout rounds have begun.

Over the last two weeks, we’ve watched legends humbled, soar to new heights, underdogs shock the world and favorites stake their claims. Through it all, you’ve shown up, sung the songs, with your joy and despair and every facet of your truly global cultures.

It’s been everything we hoped for.

When we opened Pizza Maya, we imagined more than a restaurant. We imagined a place where people could gather around something bigger than themselves.

Sometimes that’s a pizza. Sometimes that’s a plate of momos.

Sometimes it’s ninety minutes that turn complete strangers into lifelong friends.
